Brighton vs Newcastle: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 27th April 2019
Kick off at 5:30pm BST
Venue: Amex Stadium

Match Preview:

In truth Brighton were unlucky to lose so late on against Tottenham and it did seem that Chris Hughton’s side were going to get a much needed point away from home. But Tottenham found a way to win and Brighton come into this match just 3 points clear of Cardiff. Nobody could have seen it a few months ago but Brighton are involved in a relegation battle where they have been amongst the poorest teams in the Premier League since the turn of the year.

Brighton are in theory 4 points clear of Cardiff given their superior goal difference and they are the favourites to stay up. The club need something from this game, but if it isn’t to be and Cardiff beat Fulham they would still hold just a tiny advantage with 2 games to go.

What has been worrying for Brighton is that they have lost their last 3 home games in a row but not to any top 10 side. Their last win at home was against bottom club Huddersfield.

Newcastle do not have a tenth of the worries that have befallen the hosts, they are 7 points clear of them and very safe. Form is good and they have won their last two matches.

The Magpies last away game was a surprise 1-0 victory over Leicester and they were worth their win but in general the club have struggled on the road with just 3 wins all season.

Team News:

Brighton: Davy Propper is out with his hamstring, he is the only new injury worry for the club.

Newcastle: Miguel Almiron has now been ruled out for the rest of the season due to his hamstring injury. Isaac Hayden has a knock but is expected to recover for the game. Jamaal Lascelles is out with illness.

Brighton vs Newcastle Head to Head:

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Brighton won 1-0.

Newcastle have no wins against Brighton in the last 3 meetings.

6 from the last 7 meetings have ended in under 2.5 goals.

Brighton vs Newcastle Prediction:

To understand what could happen in this match we must think like Chris Hughton who will be looking at his sides last two matches after this game. Next Brighton will be away to Arsenal - not only are The Gunners a far better side and at home but they are fighting for a Champions League position. On the final day of the season they will take on Manchester City. Taking everything into account this is a game where City will need to win in order to win the league while Brighton might be needing victory to stay in it. So this game against Newcastle is massive, it is by far the easiest remaining game on paper for the club.
