England Premier League
Monday 20th July 2020
Kick off at 6pm BST
Venue: Amex Stadium
Match Preview:
Brighton will host Newcastle in their penultimate game in what has been a roller coaster season for the club. Losing almost 50% of their games was not on the cards but survival was always going to be key for Graham Potter’s side who put in a lot of good work near the beginning of the season, which is now paying dividends.
The one disappointing aspect with the club has been their home form which could have been better. They have stumbled and dropped too many points at the AMEX and made heavy weather of some matches that they should have been winning.
For Newcastle this could well be their longest trip of the season and Steve Bruce will be happy with the season so far. Recent form hasn’t been great since they lost to Manchester City they got destroyed in that game but at the same time Newcastle have been hard to beat this season. Bruce has certainly proved any doubters wrong.
The Magpies have been quite poor on the road and this has clearly been their anchor where they have picked up just 5 wins which equates overall to 17 points from 54. They are averaging around a goal per game.
Team News:
Brighton: Defender Adam Webster is doubtful with a groin injury.
Newcastle: Lascelles and Sean Longstaff are both unavailable. Andy Carroll and Florian Lejeune are doubts.
Brighton vs Newcastle Head to Head:
Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture the game ended 0-0.
Last season the teams drew 1-1 in this fixture.
The last 5 meetings have all seen under 2.5 goals.
3 of the last 5 games have seen the half time score at 0-0.
4 of the last 5 meetings have not seen both teams to score.
Brighton vs Newcastle Prediction:
Brighton look more likely of the two to get something from this game, however we don't see much value in their odds. Newcastle have done well this season but haven’t been very good on their travels and Brighton got a decent 0-0 in the reverse fixture. The home side may still struggle against the stronger teams but have become more accustomed to playing teams in and around them. They could well end the season the way they started it with a spring in their step. Newcastle can still be dangerous but their recent results at this stadium are not good and may not bode well for this fixture. Having said that, it would be no surprise if this game ended in a lacklustre draw, therefore we will will focus on goals.
Brighton vs Newcastle Betting Tips:
