England Premier League
Saturday 20th March 2021
Kick off at 8pm GMT
Venue: Amex Stadium
Match Preview:
Just the one game in the Premier League will take place on Saturday, but what a game it promises to be. Brighton are in 16th place and Newcastle are 1 point behind in 17th. One of them could well go down this season if the Fulham keep up their decent form and this game will be known as a classic ‘six pointer’ if we have a winner.
Graham Potter’s side ended a 3 game losing streak last weekend by beating Southampton 2-1. That was Brighton’s 5th away win of the season and was huge for the club. With Fulham inevitably losing to Manchester City it means that for now Brighton have gone 3 points clear of Scott Parker’s side.
Newcastle have been a disaster this season and could well end up with 15 points less than they achieved in the previous season. The Magpies drew 1-1 against Aston Villa last weekend and that was the clubs 3rd straight draw. Manager Steve Bruce may take comfort that his side have not lost in a month since the defeat at the hands of Manchester United but at the same time they are not winning games either. Had those draws been converted into victories Newcastle would now have 34 points and be 14th, that’s the difference.
On the road The Magpies have been clipped, losing 8 of their matches and managing just one win in their last five. Their last away game ended in a 0-0 tension filled match against West Bromwich Albion.
Team News:
Brighton: Dan Burn is expected to recover from his hamstring for this game but could face a late test. Adam Webster is ruled out and should be back in two weeks time after his ankle injury.
Newcastle: Miguel Almiron could be back after some fitness issues. Callum Wilson is almost certainly going to miss this game as needs to build up fitness following a spell on the sidelines. Allan Saint-Maximin is out with his groin, Fabian Schar is expected to be back in 3 weeks following his knee injury.
Brighton vs Newcastle Head to Head:
Earlier in the season Brighton won this fixture 3-0.
Last season the clubs drew 0-0 in this fixture.
3 of the last 4 meetings has ended in a draw.
Brighton vs Newcastle Prediction:
What a game we have on our hands. And we can’t help feeling that Brighton are the club coming into this game in a more relaxed and controlled environment. Newcastle look disjointed and perhaps something is happening behind the scenes with the club. They have not been able to settle well this season with injuries and players out of form. That doesn’t mean that Brighton have fared that much better but the players seem to have more of an understanding with their manager in the vision he has.
Brighton have underperformed this season but this is a big home game for the club where they can have some breathing space with a win and we will be backing the home side to get all three points.
