England Premier League
Saturday 7th May 2022
Kick off at 5:30pm BST
Venue: Amex Stadium
Match Preview:
For Brighton this season is now about trying to finish in the top half of the table and if the season was to end now that objective would be complete. However there are still four games to go for most clubs but for the Seagulls just 3. Graham Potter’s side have 44 points in 9th and it will likely be their highest finish given that 8th placed Wolves are five points ahead and have a game in hand.
Form has been solid for Brighton in the last month given that they have little to play for and they have lost just one game in that time and that was an expected defeat away to Manchester City. Last weekend the club won 3-0 away to Wolves, which was an impressive result as Wolves are still trying to qualify for the last European place this season. Brighton have had their problems though and that has usually been at home with just 3 wins so far, and from a possible 51 points on offer they have only won 16 here.
Mathematically Manchester United’s top 4 hopes aren’t quite over but it is only a matter of time before that dream is over. United are 5 points behind 4th placed Arsenal but have just two games left and then of course there is Tottenham to consider and everyone at United will be resigned to the fact that they will be playing Europa League football next season.
Form has simply not been good enough for Ralf Rangnick’s side with seven points earned from their last 15, though they have gone two games unbeaten after a draw with Chelsea and a 3-0 win over Brentford, although note those games were both at home. United have lost 4 games in a row away from home and their last away victory came against Leeds ten weeks ago. United could be eyeing 5th place, and if they win here and Tottenham were to lose away to Liverpool on the same day United would stay in sixth place but would have the same points as Antonio Conte’s side.
Team News:
Brighton: There was bad news for Enock Mwepu whose latest groin injury has likely ruled him out for the rest of the season. Jakub Moder is out long term with his hamstring injury. Jeremy Sarmiento is out for another week with his hamstring.
Manchester United: Harry Maguire could return but will be assessed after his knee injury. Aaron Wan Bissaka will be assessed and could return after his knock. Jadon Sancho could miss the rest of the season through illness as could Luke Shaw with a leg injury. Paul Pogba is out with his calf injury.
Brighton vs Man Utd Head to Head:
Last season Manchester United won this fixture 3-2.
Manchester United have won the last seven meetings in a row against Brighton.
Manchester United have scored 7 goals past Brighton in the last three meetings and conceded just one goal.
Brighton vs Man Utd Prediction:
Manchester United are a brilliant price to win the game and while they have frustrated everyone there is no pressure on the club anymore. Fourth is basically all but gone, Rangnick has another two weeks in the job and you get the sense that the worst for this season is over now. United also have a brilliant record over Brighton and Cristiano Ronaldo is trying to get to the 20 goal mark and even perhaps try and finish as top goalscorer this season, although that does look like a stretch. Ronaldo scored in the reverse fixture earlier in the season and we will back him to get one at the weekend.
Brighton simply haven’t been good at home and we expect the club to suffer here against a team boasting quality with no pressure on their shoulders anymore. The better team should come out shining here and this could be a long afternoon for Graham Potter’s side.
Brighton vs Man Utd Betting Tips:
