Brighton vs Man City: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Tuesday 18th May 2021
Kick off at 7pm BST
Venue: Amex Stadium

Match Preview:

Brighton may just end up finishing in 17th place though the Seagulls will not mind too much given that there is an 11 point gap to the bottom three which has now been done and dusted. It means that Graham Potter’s side can just enjoy their game with the new champions Manchester City without too much pressure. However they will want to stay focused and now face a huge task and a heavy loss can’t be ruled out if City click in midweek.

The Seagulls drew 1-1 at home to West Ham although they would have been disappointed with that result given that they were leading the game with just three minutes left to play. Recent form has not been the best with just one win from their past five but the club have managed to remain unbeaten at home for their last four games.

Manchester City are the new champions and well done for them on that occasion as they get used to it after a week. Eleven days after this game City will play in their first ever Champions League final and though no one at the club will admit it, the final will be on their minds now. City could hardly be blamed for that given the title is wrapped up.

The club were involved in a thrilling 7 goal feast in their last game as they beat Newcastle 4-3 and they have won 9 points from their last 15, not vintage form for Pep Guardiola’s team but good enough. On the road this season City by far has the best form with 45 points won from 54 and that includes winning their last five games.

Team News:

Brighton: Neal Maupay is suspended for this game as is Lewis Dunk for earlier red cards. Davy Propper is a doubt with an ankle injury. Joel Veltman is struggling with his calf injury but could be assessed.

Manchester City: There has been no update on Kevin De Bruyne’s muscle injury which has kept him out for the past 10 days. Sergio Aguero could return for this game after a lack of match fitness.

Brighton vs Man City Head to Head:

Manchester City have won the last 8 meetings between the clubs in a row.

Manchester City have scored 14 goals past Brighton in their last 4 league meetings.

Brighton vs Man City Prediction:

City should have few problems to win this game but of course it is a match that they do not have to pay so much attention too and who could blame them? The title is wrapped up and they have bigger fish to fry at the end of the month. Still Guardiola has never been one to shy away from any game as his club will try and maintain a 13 point gap at the top of the standings.

Of note the champions are around 1.50 to win this game, normally that would be 1.30 so expect some changes to the team and perhaps the value would be in looking for the goals market for this one. This is a game that could be much closer given the circumstances but City should still be able to power through. Don’t be surprised though if the match starts off very slowly Brighton will set up defensively and won’t be here to get turned over so easily.
