England Premier League
Saturday 11th July 2020
Kick off at 8pm BST
Venue: Amex Stadium
Match Preview:
Manchester City are making a habit of winning big at home and losing games away. Their latest victims were Newcastle who lost 5-0 at the Etihad despite having gone the last month unbeaten. City themselves had just come off of a surprise 1-0 loss at Southampton.
Pep Guardiola’s team come into this game with 69 points, and in truth they will just want the season over. They can’t move from the position they are in and the FA Cup and Champions League will be taking their priorities now. City’s recent away record is very poor where they have lost 4 of their last 5 games and that includes losing their last 3 in a row. Because of the pandemic City actually haven’t tasted victory on the road since February when they beat Brendan Rodgers Leicester side.
Brighton in 15th place are fairly safe with 36 points and they are 8 points from the bottom three. In theory they could go down, but it would take consistency from one of the bottom two clubs and that likely isn’t going to happen. The good news for Brighton is that they have a 5 point gap to 16th placed West Ham and that is a nice breather especially given that they will be expected to lose this game. The club have just 1 win in their past four games.
Brighton were at home in their last game, which is was against the champions, Liverpool. They lost the game 3-1 and in that sense they are unlucky now to face the 2019 champions Manchester City.
Team News:
Brighton: No new injuries to report.
Manchester City: Sergio Aguero is unavailable with a knee injury.
Brighton vs Man City Head to Head:
Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Manchester City won 4-0.
Manchester City have won the last six meetings in a row.
Manchester City have scored 8 goals against Brighton in their last two meetings.
Brighton have not beaten Manchester City since 2008 which was in the league cup.
Brighton vs Man City Prediction:
Whilst Brighton have won 21 of their points at home their recent home form is not good having lost 3 from their last four. Though they have had difficult games including having to play Manchester United and Liverpool.
Brighton can take some heart in what Southampton did to City a few days ago, because the Saints like Brighton don’t have much to play for. However they would love another win just to feel 100% safe.
Some may wonder what City team will turn up, and that is why backing them to win at heavy odds on may make no sense. City have the quality to come here and score a few goals and we think they will.
Brighton vs Man City Betting Tips:
Over 2.5 goals at 1.53
Anytime goalscorer: Raheem Sterling at 2.40
Both teams to score at 1.95
