Brighton vs Liverpool: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League

Venue: Amex Stadium

Match Preview:

There is no doubt that Brighton have had a very solid start to the season and come into this weekend in fifth place. With 15 points they are just three behind Manchester City and have won five games from seven. However the Seagulls last two games in all competitions would have taken the players back a step or two. First they were knocked out of the EFL Cup and then they lost to Aston Villa. However it was the result that counts and Brighton lost the game 6-1 and one has to wonder how that will set back the club.

At home Brighton have played four games and won three of them with wins over Bournemouth,Newcastle and Luton, they have lost here to West Ham. Liverpool’s week has been taken over by the VAR Luis Diaz goal when Diaz’s goal was ruled offside even after a VAR check but was clearly the wrong decision. It would have been the opening goal of the game against Tottenham and certainly would have changed it given that Liverpool ended up losing 2-1. Since then not only have the Reds demanded the original audio tape of the VAR conversation and got their way now manager Jurgen Klopp has demanded a replay. Such an occurrence doesn’t happen even after such an unjustifiable act and if the FA were to give in that would surely send ripples throughout the game. Should Wolves not have deserved a replay against Manchester United on the opening weekend? And that is just one example from literally a hundred.

Despite the loss Liverpool are in a good position in 4th place but are only two points behind league leaders Manchester City. The Spurs defeat was the clubs first of the season and ended a five game winning run.

Brighton vs Liverpool Prediction:

Brighton have proved themselves to be a strong side as their league showing is telling us but some will say that the Seagulls have played plenty of teams so far that would be expected to finish below them. We will be backing Liverpool the whole way here. They have the chance to catch out Roberto De Zerbi’s side after such a hammering and you also have to factor in that the Reds will be a wounded animal so to speak. They will prepare well for this game one would suspect and be up for this. Normally this could be seen as a tough fixture of course just look at last season but Jurgen Klopp will be demanding a performance here and he certainly has the team to go and do it.

Is it not possible to picture a smiling Diaz scoring a goal and perhaps mocking the VAR this weekend? This is how we will call it and with their main rivals Manchester City suffering some key injuries and a suspension in midfield this could be the time to try and catch them up and put real pressure on them. Brighton of course are not to be taken lightly but the timing to play the Seagulls looks like a good one to us.
