Match Preview:
Brighton and Leicester will contest the Saturday evening game in the Premier League where we have one side needing the points to stay above water and the other wanting to confirm their top 4 finish.
Graham Potter’s side are in 16th place and are only 3 points from the drop. They have Newcastle directly below them on the same points (26). There is a real chance Brighton could go down this season and they are far from safe. Recent form has been poor with no wins in their last 4 and just 2 points earned in that time. The clubs last win came against, ironically, Liverpool a month ago and they come into this game having lost their last two against Crystal Palace and West Bromwich Albion.
Home form has been worrying for the club with just one victory so far and the majority of their games have finished in draws, with seven so far.
Leicester claimed a draw in midweek against Burnley after being 1-0 down to an early goal and given that Manchester United in 2nd place are also drawing games Leicester probably would have taken that. The Foxes are in 3rd and have 50 points but Chelsea and Everton are catching up to them and Chelsea are only 3 points behind Brendan Rodgers side. The memory of last season will still be fresh in Leicester’s minds when a top 4 place was taken from them on the last weekend of the season, although there had been a slow build up of what would happen as Leicester’s form collapsed. They will surely be more determined this season after spending the majority of it in the top 3.
The Foxes though have gone their last 2 games without a win after the Burnley draw and the loss to Arsenal at home. That defeat perhaps reminded Rodgers of what the big six clubs can do on their day as Leicester were beating Arsenal 1-0 only to go on and lose that meeting 3-1.
However here is the good news, Leicester have the best away record in the league. From a possible 42 points the club has earned 31 winning 9 games and losing just once on the road so far. Another fantastic feat is that with 26 goals scored away from home that is the best record in the league so far, albeit Manchester City have 25 goals and have played a game less, but even so that is impressive from Rodger’s team.
Team News:
Brighton: Aaron Connolly could retunr from his back injury and will be assessed. Tariq Lamptey was scheduled to return from his hamstring injury but now has a setback. Adam Webster isn’t expected back until the end of the month. An update on Solly March suggests that he could miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.
Leicester: Ayoze Perez is back in training following injury but is expected to miss this game and return in a week’s time. Harvey Barnes is out for five to six weeks with his knee. Jonny Evans is a major doubt for this game with a calf strain. James Maddison is out with a hip injury and isn’t expected back until the end of the month. Dennis Praet is out with his muscle injury but is getting better but isn’t expected back for another 10 days.
Brighton vs Leicester Head to Head:
Last season this fixture ended 2-0 to Leicester.
Leicester beat Brighton 3-0 at home earlier in the season.
Brighton have no wins against Leicester since 2014.
There is a 60% chance to see under 2.5 goals.
Brighton vs Leicester Prediction:
Of concern to Leicester will be their build up of injuries but they should have enough to win this game and of course have a great away record. Brighton would be happy to claim a draw but they need to come forward and take risks because a win is what the club need to achieve. This will allow Leicester more time and gaps and could play into their hands. If Brighton go ultra defensive in the long run it won’t help their cause and we expect Leicester who have a strong record over Brighton to get the win.
Jamie Vardy has been quiet by his standards so we will back him to find a goal at the weekend. He usually doesn’t stay quiet for too long and he is a decent price.
