Brighton vs Everton: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 29th December 2018
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Amex Stadium

Match Preview:

Brighton will play their second game in a row at home and if it’s anything like their previous match the team will fancy their chances. After going their last three games without a win which amounted in 3 straight losses it looked as if Chris Hughton’s side had lost their early season mojo- not quite so. Facing Arsenal who have been utterly impressive this season they got a 1-1 draw.

Even though Arsenal had the better of the game what we got from this was that Brighton had 12 goal attempts against the quality of The Gunners. It was an important point that stopped the rot and the club come into this match in 13th place but also 10 points from any danger.

At The Amex Brighton have lost just two games here all season but because of too many draws they have won here just once in their last four attempts.

Everton did what they had to do against Burnley on Boxing Day and destroyed Sean Dyche’s team 5-1. This match was all about recovery after Marco Silva’s team lost 6-2 a few days previous against Tottenham. The scoreline was important not just to get the goals but also make up the goal deficit and it was the perfect response from The Toffee men.

That win means Everton are in 8th place with 27 points and it stopped a bad run of form which had seen the team win just 5 points from their last possible 15. Away from home remains a problem as the club have won just 2 games all season and that 2nd of course was against Burnley.

Team News:

Brighton: Mat Ryan is unavailable for at least two weeks as he is on international duty with Australia in the Asian Cup. Jose Heriberto Izquierdo has been out most of December with a knee injury but was expected back for this game although there has been no confirmation as yet

Everton: The only injury worry for the club is Ademola Lookman who picked up an ankle injury in the win v Burnley. But he will be assessed ahead of this game

Brighton vs Everton Head to Head:

The teams have only played once at Brighton in recent memory and that game, played in 2017, ended 1-1.

In the 3 recent games played Everton remain undefeated with 2 wins a 1 draw.

Everton have scored 6 goals against Brighton in the 3 meetings they have recently played.

Brighton vs Everton Prediction:

Both sides will come into this game with a spring in their step. For Brighton getting a draw against Arsenal is a very good result. For Everton they needed a good win after the Tottenham game and got it. Make no mistake playing Brighton away is a difficult match and Everton overall have not travelled well this season, their only away victories being against Burnley and Leicester. If Everton have aspirations of over hauling their points total last season and trying to get a Europa League spot they need to put wins together. As for Brighton they have mostly punched above their weight and surely they would just be content to finish in mid table and try and build on that. This match should be very entertaining as Brighton are stong at home and often score, therefore we see both teams getting on the scoresheet, and we give the slight edge to Everton on the result but with the draw covered.
