Brighton vs Everton: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Monday 8th May 2023
Kick off at 5:30pm BST
Venue: Amex Stadium

Match Preview:

It was absolute madness at the AMEX Stadium last week as a 99th minute penalty scored by World Cup winner Alexis MacAllister won Brighton the game against Manchester United. It will be a memory etched into every fans mind, it was all or nothing and the Seagulls have an all or nothing season still to play for if they can finish the campaign on a strong note.

Brighton are in 7th place with 55 points but have three games in hand over both Tottenham and Liverpool in 6th and 5th place. They even have a chance to qualify for next seasons Champions League and for now the sky seems like the limit for Roberto De Zerbi’s side, a penny for your thoughts Mr Graham Potter? Form has been good for Brighton with 3 wins from their past four including back to back wins coming into this game. Together with recently beating Manchester United the Seagulls have also beaten or destroyed, depending on how you want to view it, Wolves. The result was a quite brilliant 6-0 victory and lucky for De Zerbi and his team as this game will be the clubs third in a row at home.

Everton continue to disappoint overall because they can’t win a game but they did put in a fighting performance in their last match as they drew 2-2 with Leicester in an entertaining game. The club have struggled for goals and been very poor away from home and although they didn’t pick up the three points at King Power Stadium they were unlucky and they did score 2 goals. Everton are in 19th place and being there and it being May usually means that your fate is sealed, that isn’t the case this season and a win could take them out of the bottom three and dump Leeds in it. Everton are just one point from safety but all of the teams will be frantically checking their goal difference and can’t afford to keep conceding goals as it could well come down to that factor.

It won’t make for easy reading for Everton fans that they have picked up just 5 points from their last 30 away from home and that includes zero wins. Indeed Everton have only won 1 away game so far and that was back in October. The Toffees recent form overall has been poor with just 2 points won from their last 15 and 6 goals shipped from their last two games.

Team News:

Brighton: Joel Veltman has a hamstring injury which could well keep him out for the rest of the season. Pascal Grob will be assessed for a slight muscle injury but is 50/50. Evan Ferguson is also 50/50 to return after his ankle injury.

Everton: RBen Godfrey looks to be the latest addition to the injury list with a groin strain with no fixed return date as of yet. Seamus Coleman has been ruled out for the season with a knee injury. Ruben Vinagre remains out with his Achilles. Andros Townsend now looks set to miss the remainder of the season with fitness issues.

Brighton vs Everton Head to Head:

Everton have conceded 7 goals past Brighton in their last two games.

Last season Everton won this fixture 2-0.

There is a 50% chance to see over 3.5 goals.

Brighton vs Everton Prediction:

Brighton are playing for something and have been one of the most impressive teams this season and that is the big worry for an Everton side who have been so poor away. If you’re looking for more worries, how about the fact that Brighton came to Everton’s ground only in January and spanked them 4-1. Everton should be the huge underdogs and while they can put in passion and a fight they have seemed to wilt when other teams have been attacking them and it has been something witnessed on too many occasions this season.

The Seagulls are as much as 1.30 to win the game and that tells you how times have changed? They may have been as much as evens just a few seasons ago. It’s difficult to back Everton because Sean Dyche has not been able to progress the team forward, but there is the law of averages at play, could it be that quite simply the Toffees are due a win on the road? Everton are playing so poorly on the road that they would have to hope that the home side simply put in one of their poorest displays of the season.
