Venue: Amex Stadium

Match Preview:

Brighton look set to just finish out of European qualification for next season and this campaign for them will be remembered as a strong first half but a very average second half, so much so that there are strong rumours that manager Robert De Zerbi will leave the club at the end of the season. The Seagulls at least have been able to stop a poor run by going unbeaten in their last two games with a 1-0 win over Aston Villa being followed up by a good 1-1 draw away to Newcastle. At home draws have been the problem because De Zerbi’s side have only lost three times here and won 8 of their 17 matches, they would be in 8th place based on home form alone.

After a poor season when you take in the amount of money spent the last two months have seen a big push and improvement from Chelsea. In an incredible scenario the Blues could finish in 5th place but look more likely to finish in either sixth or seventh and that would still feel like quite an achievement considering the club had flirted with 11th place for most of the season. Sixth place is a real option given that the Blues come into this game with 57 points the same as Newcastle in sixth currently and both sides have two games left to play each so it really is all to play for. Current form is great for Chelsea and they have won their last 3 games in a row with victories against Tottenham, West Ham and Nottingham Forest. Chelsea haven’t just won games but they are scoring goals too and have notched in 10 goals in those matches.

There is a 60% chance to see under 2.5 goals.

Brighton vs Chelsea Prediction:

Just when you think Brighton are done they are able to pull out a result but the common feeling coming into this game is that Chelsea will be the favourites to win as they try and finish as high as they can and complete a very solid run into a season which has been underwhelming for them. Brighton have lost the last two meetings over Chelsea but they have been able to pull out some good results over them in the last few years. With Chelsea showing good form they are the bookies choice for the win but teams playing Brighton away from home need to be cautious even if the Seagulls have been hurt by some key injuries this season. This is why we think that the double chance on the home side which covers the draw whilst odds on is good value. Chelsea have shown good form and they may well go the rest of the season unbeaten but this isn’t a pattern we have seen from the club in this campaign and Brighton is a difficult ground to go too.
