Match Preview:
A three game unbeaten run came to an end for Brighton last week as they lost against Wolves at home and they come into this game in 13th place with 20 points. The Seagulls are well on their way to surviving this season and that is down to a good couple of months form. However manager Graham Potter will be concerned that his side have not won a game in almost 3 months.
The club are still within reach of a possible European finish being six points adrift of that target although one could presume that success could be generated through finishing in the top 10. At home form has dipped with just three points won from their past 15 and the fans have seen just six goals from their side at home.
Brentford are in 12th place and with these two teams both having 20 points each this feels like a crunch match. The Bees form is much better than their hosts and in their last game they beat Watford 2-1. Form has been patchy with too many draws lately but the club have to be happy so far with their performances in their return campaign to the top flight and they have lost just one game from their past five.
Away form has been decent with 50% of their matches finishing in draws and the club have only lost 2 from their 8 games played so far, that’s not bad going at all. However we would have to go back to the beginning of October to find the last time Brentford won on their travels which was a victory against West Ham.
Team News:
Brighton: Yves Bissouma is suspended for this game as he picked up his fifth yellow card of the season. Lewis Dunk won’t return for at least 3 weeks as he has a knee injury. Joel Veltman has a lack of match fitness but is 50/50 for this one and will be assessed. Jeremy Sarmiento has a hamstring injury which is expected to keep him out for three months.
Brentford: The Bees have no new injury concerns but Kristoffer Ajer won’t be back for another 10 days at least, Tariqe Fosu-Henry has a hamstring injury. Josh Da Silva and David Raya Martin are out long term with a hip and knee injury respectively.
Brighton vs Brentford Head to Head:
The clubs haven’t played this fixture since 2016 where Brentford won 2-0.
Earlier this season in the reverse fixture Brighton won 1-0.
There is a 70% chance to see under 2.5 goals.
Brighton vs Brentford Prediction:
On paper this could look like a non-glamorous tie and the history does suggest a game of few goals. But we have two teams who will want to push on as we get nearer to the half way point of the season. We also have two teams who can play good attacking football and we could be in for a belter of a game, well that will be the hope.
Graham Potter has done a solid job at Brighton so far, and it isn’t an easy one with the budget the club have each season. They have been going through a difficult patch and the question has to be when will it stop? This could be the game, at home against a newly promoted side, the Christmas cheer and all that. But apart from that if the club can find their early season flow we could see a solid home victory here, and the prices being quoted on that are very tempting indeed.
We will also go against history and back for there to be goals in this game, this could well end up being a match that is end to end, and it is worth the risk backing this game to play out like that. Both clubs will be feeling safe from too many pressures at this time and we are relatively still early in the season to witness the clubs taking risks and more chances.
