In a nutshell Brighton need a performance to get them over the line. Their FA Cup semi-final exit to Manchester City has been deeply disappointing for Chris Hughton’s team and their last league match finished in a 3-0 defeat against Chelsea.

Brighton should be safe this season but they are just 5 points from the bottom three and it only takes a win from 18^th placed Cardiff to turn the heat up on them.

The good news for Brighton is that they do have a game in hand over Cardiff and they have 2 games in hand over most of the clubs around them but there is a feeling that the side have been greatly underperforming since the turn of the year.

At home they have overall been solid but recent form has been poor with just 1 win in their last five games with their last home match ending ending in a 1-0 loss against Southampton, a direct rival.

Bournemouth are in 13^th and 5 points clear of Brighton and they come into this match with back to back defeats. They have just one win in their last five games and that came against Huddersfield.

Eddie Howe’s team have still not drawn any games away and they have lost 12 games from 16 on the road. Bournemouth have one of the worst records away from home in the league.

Brighton: Pascal Grob could return after a lack of match fitness. Solly March is pencilled in to return for this game after his calf injury but will be assessed

Bournemouth: Charlie Daniels looks to be out for the rest of the season following his knee injury. Diego Rico has an ankle injury and could also miss the rest of the season. And the bad luck continues for the club with the news that Andrew Surman’s calf injury looks set to rule out the player for the rest of the season also

Bournemouth are safe but Brighton are not out of the woods just yet and this is a massive game for the club. They need to pick up points when at home. Hughton has to look to future games and when we see that they have yet to face the likes of Tottenham, Arsenal and Manchester City it becomes apparent how important this game is. Only Cardiff remain a threat and Brighton will play them in their next game, so this is a huge match. We are going to back them to get the win here but for minimum stakes. What this match will tell the manager is how strong his team is.
