England Premier League
Saturday 20th June 2020
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Amex Stadium
Match Preview:
Brighton will have looked at Arsenal’s performance against Manchester City in midweek and be thinking that they can get something in this match. Graham Potters side are in the danger zone despite being 15th, because they are just two points from the bottom three.
A win here would be welcome given that the club have gone their last five games without one. It hasn’t been all bad though as 4 of those matches ended in draws. The club have had some decent results too before the league had to be stopped, drawing against quality sides such as Sheffield United and Wolves.
Almost 60% of the clubs overall points have come at home, although they have not won a game here this year.
Arsenal put in a typical Arsenal ‘of the last few seasons’ performance as they welcomed back football but inevitably imploding against the champions Manchester City and losing 3-0. The headlines will be about how poor David Luiz was, the Brazilian was sent off and cost the Gunners the game, but in reality they never seemed to have a chance anyway. The damning fact is that Arsenal had 0 shots on target.
Mikel Arteta’s side stay in 9th place but drop more points at the weekend and they will be back in 10th. Before the break Arsenal seemed to be finding their feet under Arteta and had won 3 games in a row, though it should be noted that they were all home fixtures.
Arsenal continue to struggle away from home where they have won just twice this season. The club have kept conceding goals away from home down to 19, which isn’t too bad when you consider Manchester City have conceded the same, but they are struggling to score goals on the road with just 14 so far.
Team News:
Brighton: The club have no new injuries ahead of this game.
Arsenal: David Luiz is suspended for 2 games after he was sent off v Manchester City. Granit Xhaka and Pablo Mari have slight problems with knee and a knock but are expected to recover.
Brighton vs Arsenal Head to Head:
Recently the clubs have only played each other 5 times and Arsenal have just 1 victory in the league.
Brighton won the reverse game at Arsenal earlier this season 2-1.
The last time the clubs played at Brighton the game ended 1-1.
In the last decade the teams have played each other 7 times and 6 of those games have seen both teams to score.
Brighton vs Arsenal Prediction:
The disadvantage for Arsenal is that not only did they have to play in midweek but they lost too easily and put in a poor performance. The plus side has to be that their players may be a little less rusty than Brighton. Brighton will be up for this game and they won’t be afraid to come forward, and that is what could be key in this match being very entertaining.
Arteta will expect a response from his team, but they don’t travel well and do not have a good record over Brighton away. We expect the game to have goals and be end to end stuff, but the thought of punting on Arsenal at this stage and their overall away form does not seem like the wisest of choices.
