England Premier League
Wednesday 27th December 2023
Kick off at 7:30pm GMT
Venue: Brentford Community Stadium
Match Preview:
Brentford are searching for the taste of victory and have fallen to 14th place after losing their last 3 games. Two of those came against Brighton and Aston Villa but they have also been defeated against bottom club Sheffield United and one has to wonder if these are worrying times for the club and manager Thomas Frank? The Bees are still a healthy 7 points clear of the bottom three but that can be swallowed up rapidly and current form has the club at just 1 win in their last five games. After 9 games at home Brentford have a straight 3-3-3 record although they have lost 2 from their last 3 games but in between that time have beaten Luton 3-1. Whilst we have talked about the negative aspect of the clubs form it is also true that just one win could move the club up to 12th or even 11th and they could join Chelsea on the same points. The Bees remain a club very much with the chance of surviving this season but the bottom line is that they will need to get back to winning ways quickly.
Wolves have had a mixed bag of recent form but they are in 11th place with 22 points and could move past Chelsea with victory. Talking of Chelsea, Wolves beat them 2-1 in their last game to record their 6th win of the season and they have lost just once in their last four games. However whilst at times in this campaign Wolves have impressed their away form has suffered with 6 defeats from 9 games and that includes having lost 4 in a row. We would need to go back 2 months since their last win on the road which came against Bournemouth in a game they won 2-1.
Team News:
Brentford: Frank Onyeka and Ben Mee are suspended whilst Ivan Toney is suspended until next month. Kevin Schade, Aaron Hickey, Joshua Dasilva and Kristoffer Ajer are all ruled out for the Christmas period and in fact all of these players are being pencilled in to return in 3 weeks time. Mathias Jensen remains a doubt and is only 50/50 to return due to a thigh injury. Rico Henry is out for the season with a knee injury.
Wolves: Craig Dawson, Jean-Ricner Bellegrande and Fabio Silva will all be assessed but all have a chance to return for this game. Joseph Hodge is expected to miss out again due to a lack of match fitness. Pedro Neto will be assessed for fitness issues, Boubacar Traore is a doubt with illness and Jonny is not being considered for the squad due to punishment.
Brentford vs Wolves Head to Head:
Last season this fixture finished 1-1.
Brentford has managed just 1 win in the previous 8 meetings between the clubs.
3 of the last four meetings have seen under 2.5 goals.
Brentford vs Wolves Prediction:
Coming into this game you’d have to be worried about Brentford’s suspension list. Three key players are suffering this fate and even though Ivan Toney’s has been on going there are two regulars that will be missing out here. Ben Mee is a very important player for the club and in fact his suspension runs into three games. The Bees are coming up against a decent side and a pretty confident one too. Wolves have held well against the Bees in recent years and whilst the visitors have their own problems we think that they can come here and come away with a positive result. Wolves are a very good price to win this game and are great value but it might be better to back them on the double chance which will cover a possible draw. The market sees Brentford as the 1.91 favourites but they are up against a side they traditionally struggle against albeit Wolves are currently on a poor away run.
Brentford vs Wolves Betting Tips:
