England Premier League
Sunday 14th May 2023
Kick off at 2pm BST
Venue: Brentford Community Stadium
Match Preview:
Brentford’s European chances look over now but they won’t be giving up just yet and they could well make a case if they win at the weekend. The club are in 10th place and would go past Fulham with a win here. Recent form has been a mixed bag but there have been a couple of wins that have come against Chelsea and Nottingham Forest although last weekend they lost to Liverpool away from home. At home the Bees have been a difficult side to beat with just two defeats so far and it has been their draws that have anchored the club. Had just 3 of their seven draws been wins they would be right in the mix for a European finish.
West Ham got a huge 3 points last weekend as they beat Manchester United 1-0 and now that they have 37 points they will feel safe, although another win would confirm it. In theory they have made it as 18th placed Leeds can only get 37 points as a maximum but have an inferior goal difference of 12, so the Hammers have survived this season. Form hasn’t been good for David Moyes side and despite the win over United they have lost 3 of their last four games. In midweek the club were involved in the Europa Conference League semi final 1st leg in which they beat AZ Alkmaar 2-1 and the 2nd leg is going to be on the clubs minds, after all it will be one of their biggest games in recent memory. The Hammers have only won three games on the road and have lost 11 from 17 and that doesn’t bode well for this game.
Team News:
Brentford: There are no new injuries for the club but Thomas Strakosha, Christian Norgaard, Keane Lewis-Potter and Pontus Jansson all look out for the season.
West Ham: Vladimir Coufal misses out due to a hamstring injury, Angelo Ogbonna is a doubt due to illness and Gianluca Scamacca remains sidelined with a knee injury.
Brentford vs West Ham Head to Head:
The clubs last played here earlier this year in the FA Cup and West Ham won 1-0.
Last season in this fixture Brentford won 2-0.
Brentford have won 3 of the last four meetings.
Brentford vs West Ham Prediction:
West Ham should be respected and are no pushovers but they have such a huge game coming up next week that manager David Moyes may well rest some key players. He will understand that his team are now 99.9% safe to stay up this season and their focus has to be on their European game which is also away from home.
This is why we think the smart move would be to back Brentford, who are strong anyway at home and the last thing West Ham need before such an important game is a physical game and one in which some players may get injured, no risks should be taken and this just further adds as to why we think Brentford can get all 3 points. The Bees also have a very good recent record over the Hammers but we still expect to see a closely fought game just don’t expect a vintage must win performance from the visitors, it simply isn’t required.
