England Premier League
Saturday 4th November 2023
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Brentford Community Stadium
Match Preview:
Brentford are in 10th place with 13 points and manager Thomas Frank will be fairly satisfied with his club's start to the season. Whilst the club have lost three games recent form has turned for the better and they have won back to back games coming into this one. First they beat Burnley in a straight forward 3-0 victory. This was followed up by a fantastic 2-0 win against Chelsea away from home so one could believe that the Bees will be buzzing coming into this weekend. It is worth noting that Brentford have lost just one game at home from five although the majority of their matches here have ended in draws.
West Ham’s bright start to the season has evaporated but there was still good news in midweek. Let’s start with that as the Hammers beat Arsenal 3-1 in the EFL Cup and this was a huge result for the club who naturally have a huge rivalry with Arsenal. The Gunners have been lording it over West Ham for many years and so this result was seen as a surprise. That’s the good news but there are worries in the Premier League where David Moyes' side have fallen to 9th place with two losses coming into this one and no wins since the end of September. Last weekend the club were beaten at home to Everton, a side who have struggled this season. This followed a 4-1 humbling at Aston Villa and they also lost in Europe. Yet again there are question marks over Moyes’ management but like beating Arsenal he always seems to be able to pull a result out of the bag to calm the waters. Recent form has been unfortunate though because the club were threatening the top six but they have slipped now and are 12 points behind league leaders Tottenham and 9 points from the top four.
Team News:
Brentford: Shandon Baptiste could be assessed following his shoulder injury and has been pencilled in to return for this game but there has been no confirmation. Mikkel Damsgaard, Joshua Dasilva, Henry Rico, Keane Lewis-Potter and Kevin Schade all remain sidelined. Ivan Toney is suspended until January.
West Ham: Edson Alvarez and Lucas Paqueta are both suspended for this game after respectively picking up their fifth yellow cards of the season last weekend. There are no new injuries to report for the Hammers.
Brentford vs West Ham Head to Head:
Last season Brentford won this fixture 2-0.
Brentford have won 4 of the last five meetings.
The last 4 meetings have all seen under 2.5 goals.
Brentford vs West Ham Prediction:
West Ham really needed the win over Arsenal and that will mean that they won’t come into this game down in the dumps as recent games have not gone well for them. It is very easy to suddenly slip down the table and we have seen this time and again. This remains a tricky fixture and we have to respect the fact that Brentford have a very strong recent record over the Hammers.
The big blow or blows for West Ham is that they will be missing Lucas Paqueta and Edson Alvarez, two major and key players not to be playing in an awkward game and perhaps a physical one too. Bryan Mbeumo has been scoring the goals for the Bees in the continued absence of Ivan Toney who is suspended and you should be backing him again to find the net at the weekend. Our choice is to stick with the home side.
