England Premier League
Friday 10th December 2021
Kick off at 8pm GMT
Venue: Brentford Community Stadium
Match Preview:
Brentford are staying above water and on some weeks they are doing the swimming sprint, but the objective for the club this season will be survival and for now all is working out fine. The Bees enter this game in 13th place with 17 points and are seven points above the relegation zone.
It’s just one defeat in Brentford’s last four games which came against Tottenham and last weekend they drew 2-2 at Leeds. However that draw would have felt like a loss given that Patrick Bamford scored a 96th minute equaliser for Marcelo Bielsa’s side. Overall Brentford have still impressed at times this season and they are well on course to stay up.
At home Brentford have won seven points, so their away form is better. The clubs last home game finished in a 1-0 victory over Everton which ended a 3 game losing streak in front of their own fans. The club certainly need to score more goals at home with just 8 converted so far and 3 of those came in one game against Liverpool.
There are danger signs for Watford who could well get pulled into the bottom three anytime soon. One has to wonder if the magic of having Claudio Ranieri as manager is now wearing off? Ranieri started with a roller coaster bang but the Hornets have now lost their last 3 games. Not many would have given them much chance against Manchester City last weekend as they lost 3-1 at home and a few days before that they had to play Chelsea so they haven’t had it easy recently.
This game should be looked at as one where the Hornets can get 3 points and it is how Ranieri will be approaching it. However one must remember that Watford have lost 3 of their last four games on the road and two in a row. Their last away game came at Leicester where they conceded four goals in a 4-2 loss.
Team News:
Brentford: Sergi Canos is suspended for this game after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season. Kristoffer Ajer has a hamstring injury and is still out he is due back in 3-4 weeks. Tariqe Fosu-Henry is out with a hamstring injury. Ivan Toney is out with Covid-19. There has been no update on Zanka but he is a major doubt with an on going muscle injury. Josh Da Silva and David Raya Martin are both out long term.
Watford: The Hornets have no new injuries but their injury list for long term absentees is getting longer and the following will not make this game; Ismaila Sarr, Ben Foster, Adam Masina, Nicolas N’Koulou, Francisco Sierralta, Peter Etebo and Kwadwo Baah.
Brentford vs Watford Head to Head:
These teams played last season in the Championship and Brentford won 2-0 in this fixture.
Brentford have only beaten Watford once in the last 18 games. Their previous victory was back in 1977.
6 of the last seven meetings has seen both teams to score.
Brentford vs Watford Prediction:
Both teams will fight for the win because at this stage 3 points is a big bonus for the clubs in order to survive but also more risks can be taken as they have time on their side. The worry is what kind of spectacle will we see? Ivan Toney is a huge loss for the home side and the injury list has grown for both clubs. This is why one choice here would be to see the correct score at 0-0 at half time.
Watford have hit poor form but then again they have had some tough fixtures but this is another one away to Brentford in an evening game and we believe that the home side should just have enough to get the win here.
Brentford have stuck with a 3-5-2 at home, so packing the midfield but we may see a slight change to that with Toney out, we will have to wait and see. We don’t expect to see a high scoring game though.
