England Premier League
Saturday 6th November 2021
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Brentford Community Stadium
Match Preview:
After a bright and quite frankly brilliant start from Brentford the club has suffered in recent weeks and come into this game on a three match losing streak. Defeats in recent weeks have come against Chelsea, Leicester and Burnley and their most recent loss was at Burnley when they went down 3-1.
The Bees come into this game in 12th place and have 12 points and on average they could finish up with 38 points. In some seasons that has been good enough to stay up, but the club would be trying to aim for the plus 40 point marker. One could presume that Brentford’s home record was good, but it isn’t. Indeed they have only won once at home on the opening day of the season against Arsenal. True they did push Chelsea and did draw against Liverpool but a return of 4 points from 15 is nothing to shout home about.
Norwich are bottom of the league and are clearly the poorest side in it. From 10 games they are still waiting for their first win and have lost 80% of their matches so far. The Canaries are already 8 points from safety and have lost their last 2 games, which came against Leeds and Chelsea and 9 goals were conceded in those games.
Away form for Norwich is very bleak with just 1 point won from a possible 15, but one of the most striking stats in the entire Premier League is that Norwich have scored zero goals on the road. They are currently shipping 3 goals on average on their travels too.
Team News:
Brentford: Kristoffer Ajer has a long standing hamstring injury that won’t see the player return until the new year. Shandon Baptiste is still out with a shoulder injury but should be back in two weeks. David Raya Martin has been ruled out until March with a knee injury. Yoane Wissa is still missing due to his ankle injury and could be back in two weeks. Josh Da Silva is out long term with his hip.
Norwich: Sam Byram has recovered from injury but is struggling with a lack of match fitness and is likely to miss this encounter, it is the same problem for Todd Cantwell. Christoph Zimmermann won’t return for another month due to his on going ankle injury.
Brentford vs Norwich Head to Head:
This game finished 1-1 the last time the teams faced each other back in 2020 in the Championship.
The last 5 meetings have all finished under 2.5 goals.
Brentford has managed just 1 victory over Norwich from the last 9 times they have played each other.
Brentford vs Norwich Prediction:
Even though Brentford come into this game in poor form they are playing Norwich at home and will not only be the favourites to win this game but will also be expected to do so. Both clubs came up from the Championship at the same time and Norwich would have been seen as the better overall side but given what we have seen from both sides in the first three months of the season the Bees have clearly been the better of the two.
This game will still have an equal look about it though and Norwich may look at this game and fancy their chances since they do have a good record over their opponents. Brentford have been able to up their game against the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool but have also found it hard to maintain against the lower position sides, all of this may just give Norwich a chink of light to look into.
We can all agree that Norwich are poor but they are a great price to win this game against a side that we must remember were in the Championship with them earlier this year, so for value they could be worth taking on with a helpful handicap.
