England Premier League
Sunday 19th May 2024
Kick off at 4pm BST
Venue: Brentford Community Stadium
Match Preview:
There was a time when Brentford could have found themselves in a relegation battle but they found the form at the right time and have climbed onto 39 points coming into this game and are 13 points clear of the bottom three coming into this final weekend. It is just one loss for the Bees in recent form which came against Everton away from home and Thomas Frank’s side have gone their last 2 games unbeaten. They have overseen a draw against Fulham and in their latest game beat Bournemouth 2-1 away from home. At home Frank’s side are unbeaten in their last five games although four of those have ended in draws, indeed the clubs majority result at home is the draw.
Newcastle are locked in a battle with Manchester United on 57 points and because of goal difference a win for Eddie Howe’s team would secure 7th place- they would finish in 6th if Chelsea were to lose their final game. Considering Newcastle finished in a Champions League position last season this one would reflect a disappointing season but once you include the incredible injury list that the club has had to endure all season then finishing seventh feels about right. The bottom line is that normally you could blame the manager but in this instance that would be harsh on Howe.
Form for Newcastle has been decent with 7 points earned from their last five games but their last two games have seen them drop valuable points and they may well miss out on Europe next season because of it. First the club drew 1-1 with Brighton and then in midweek lost an exciting 3-2 game away to Manchester United.
Team News:
Brentford: Frank Onyeka is expected to return from a minor knock, it is the same situation for Nathan Collins. The following players are all out long term; Rico Henry, Joshua Dasilva, Aaron Hickey and Ben Mee

Brentford vs Newcastle Prediction:
This should be a close battle and we don’t see much between these teams. On one hand Brentford will want to do well in their final home game of the season and Newcastle keep carrying injuries but they are in form. Newcastle have had to play in midweek too but we think the quality in this side should be able to see them through and we will be backing them. Alexander Isak has been the outstanding player for Eddie Howe’s side and we will back him to score again. Ivan Toney for the home team may be playing his final game for them and he will want to leave an impression too. We expect to see a game with goals and an entertaining one at that but expect the away victory.
