England Premier League
Monday 5th February 2024
Kick off at 8pm GMT
Venue: Brentford Community Stadium
Match Preview:
The Monday evening game will see the champions travelling to Brentford and they are obliged to win to keep up the pressure on league leaders Liverpool. City entered this weekend 5 points adrift of Liverpool but have a game in hand but such is the consistency of these two sides that even a draw here would feel like a defeat for Pep Guardiola’ side.
Brentford have dropped to 15th place and there will be some concerns about a side who have lost 4 of their last 5 games. Last week they did give Tottenham a scare but lost that match 3-2 and that was their 11th defeat of the season and leaves them just three points from the bottom three. Home form has been average with 4 wins but four defeats and that includes losing their two games from their last three however the Bees did win their last home game which was a 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest.
Manchester City have looked slick and rather brilliant and are brimming with confidence. Kevin De Bruyne is back to full fitness and looking every bit of the world class player that he is and Erling Haaland is set to start his first game in two months after a foot injury. City have won their last 4 games in a row and scored 6 goals in their last two games as they have recently beat Newcastle and Burnley. The champions have joint best away record in the league with Liverpool having secured 22 points from a possible 33 and they have won their last 3 games on the road. With 24 goals scored only Tottenham have managed more.
Team News:
Brentford: Kim Ji-Soo, Saman Ghoddos, Frank Onyeka and Yoane Wissa are on international duty. Bryan Mbeumo won’t return for another month due to an ankle injury. Kevin Schade, Rico Henry and Aaron Hickey are all out long term.
Manchester City: There are no injuries to the first team squad.
Brentford vs Man City Head to Head:
Last season Brentford won this fixture 1-0 and in fact they did the double over Manchester City.
There is a 75% chance to see under 2.5 goals.
Brentford vs Man City Prediction:
The 75% chance to see under 2.5 goals is only based on the last four fixtures because these sides have rarely met each other in the past 25 years. Last season was interesting to see how Thomas Frank’s side dealt with the high pressure game of Manchester City and they were able to sap up the pressure and hit them on the counter. Of course Brentford’s form coming into this game has been overall poor and City’s has been the polar opposite.
Away games can be tricky even for champions but we have full confidence in City running off with a convincing victory. Manager Pep Guardiola has his side well drilled and the fact that they will arrive here with a full squad should tell you all you need to know. Credit to Brentford they can make life hard here for any club but we expect a straightforward win from the champions and they may not even have to be at their best to do so. City are a best priced 1.44 to win and we have seen them lower but we think there is more value in taking them on to win the ht/ft market, we expect them to come out and play to win from the very first minute. There will be respect for the Bees after last season and they will not want to be stung again.
