England Premier League
Saturday 18th March 2023
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Brentford Community Stadium
Match Preview:
Brentford come into this weekend in 8th place and while they do not get much praise in the press they have had a great season so far and their recent form is still consistent with just one defeat in their past five and 8 points earned from their last 15. The Bees have a chance to qualify for Europe and with Liverpool and Brighton who are both ahead of them not playing for two weeks due to the international break Thomas Frank’s side would go sixth with a win.
It’s been a busy week for Brentford and this will be their 3rd game in that time, it started off with a defeat at Everton but they bounced back in midweek to beat Southampton 2-0 away and that man Ivan Toney was scoring goals again. Where the Bees have really excelled has been at home where they have lost just once and won 7 of their 13 games here so far.
There are currently 9 teams in danger of going down and whilst six of them will be safe it is still not clear with two months of the season to go who will fall. One of those clubs is Leicester who come into the weekend in 16th place with 24 points with only goal difference currently being their saviour. Brendan Rodgers side have lost their last 4 games and have seen struggling Everton go past them, could it happen that the Foxes will be relegated only 7 years after winning the league?
Away from home the Foxes have won four times but with no draws as of yet they have also lost 9 from 13 games including four of their last five. Interestingly they are scoring goals though and have 21 so far away from home and that is more than Manchester United and Tottenham.
Team News:
Brentford: Kristoffer Ajer is out with no fixed return date with a calf injury, Vitaly Janelt could also be out long term due to a recent knee injury. Mads Roerslev will be assessed with his hamstring but is only 50/50 to make this one.
Leicester: Wout Faes is suspended due to his sending off last weekend, Jonny Evans and Ryan Bertrand are not returning until after the international break due to fitness issues. An update on Youri Tielemans suggests the player won’t return for another 4 weeks due to an ankle injury.
Brentford vs Leicester Head to Head:
Last season Leicester won this fixture 2-1.
Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture this game finished 1-1.
It’s been 12 games and 70 years since Brentford beat Leicester.
Brentford vs Leicester Prediction:
Leicester have the worst form in the Premier League and they will point to the fact that they have had to face Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea in that time. But that isn’t going to cut it because they have also lost to the bottom club Southampton and a side who have had their ups and downs this season really look like they are on a downward spiral, it looks difficult to see how they are going to turn this one around. The majestic drop off of Jamie Vardy has been telling- he has scored just one goal so far from 26 games. Of course it would be unfair to just blame one player but his goals previously were pivotal to the side. Rodgers has had to contend with the fact that the owners have not spent enough money and that is now coming back to haunt them.
Brentford have not had a better chance to beat Leicester in 70 years and you’d have to think that unleashing an in form Ivan Toney who has been selected to play for England against this Leicester defence should be too much for the Foxes. We will be backing the Bees to sting the Foxes even if history is against them. It might be worth also backing both teams to score as even when Leicester lose they seem to score away from home.
Brentford vs Leicester Betting Tips:
Brentford to beat Leicester at 1.91
Anytime goalscorer: Ivan Toney at 2.00
Both teams to score at 1.66
