Brentford vs Leeds: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 3rd September 2022
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Brentford Community Stadium

Match Preview:

Brentford have been hit and miss in the early stages of the campaign but at the end of the day not much is expected of a club playing in only their second top flight campaign since 1947. The good news for Thomas Frank’s side is that they have lost just 1 game in their opening five and have six points so far, so things could be much worse.

In midweek the Bees drew 1-1 at difficult Crystal Palace but that would have felt like a victory given that they were losing the game with just two minutes to go. Indeed Brentford have drawn their last two games and whilst they have only lost one game they have also only won one game, albeit it came in a 4-0 thrashing of Manchester United.

Leeds with 8 points are two in front of their hosts and also have had a solid start to the campaign and may have surprised themselves in the process. They have gone their last two games without a win after losing against Brighton and then drawing 1-1 to Everton. It’s no wins so far on the road for Jesse Marsch’s side with a 2-2 draw against Southampton and a defeat as mentioned against Brighton.

Team News:

Brentford: Kristoffer Ajer has missed the seasons opening games so far but is being pencilled in to return here, he has a lack of match fitness though and will have to be assessed. Sergi Canos is nearing a return from his hamstring injury but it is expected he will miss out and return next week. Pontus Jansson is only 50/50 to make this game as he has a foot injury, Ethan Pinnock is out long term with a knee injury.

Leeds: Rodrigo has a shoulder injury and is likely to miss the next 4 weeks. Luke Ayling, Liam Cooper and Junior Firpo have all recovered from injury and will be assessed but all are lacking match fitness. Stuart Dallas is out until November with a leg injury.

Brentford vs Leeds Prediction:

There isn’t anything between the clubs and they are very similar coming into this game. Both have certainly started the season much better than some would have predicted and will want to push on and grab as many points possible before the second half of the season where form can really unravel. For Leeds perspective losing forward Rodrigo to a freak shoulder accident against Everton as Everton keeper Jordan Pickford was trying to defend his line is a big blow. Rodrigo had found good form and was scoring goals and creating attacks. Patrick Bamford often injured last season is now back in the mix and much will be expected of him to perform and start scoring goals again.

Brentford will not be easy to beat at home this season just ask Manchester United and Everton and the team as of yet don’t seem to have suffered much after losing one of their key players of the season, Christian Eriksen, to United. For us we are backing the home side to get the win and the atmosphere the Bees fans can create will be intimidating to a Leeds side who may not always get it there way on the road this season. Look out for Ivan Toney, he is due a goal and will keep on pressing for a late England call up.

Brentford vs Leeds Betting Tips:

Brentford to beat Leeds at 2.10

Anytime goalscorer: Ivan Toney at 2.30
