Brentford vs Everton: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 28th November 2021
Kick off at 2pm GMT
Venue: Brentford Community Stadium

Match Preview:

At the beginning of this season a match featuring Everton playing against Brentford would have seemed like an easy call- an away win, but the newly promoted side have started the season with intent and, at times, have packed a punch. That punch has rattled Arsenal, beating the Gunners at this stadium and stunned Liverpool drawing 3-3 with the 2020 champions. The Bees recently beat West Ham too even though the Hammers have been in superb form and that was away from home so Brentford can’t be taken lightly.

However the Bees are not in great form in recent weeks, and have earned just 1 point from their last 15 on offer. That point came last weekend as the Bees drew 3-3 with Newcastle in a very entertaining game. As entertaining as Brentford have been we can’t dismiss their poor form too and before the draw with Newcastle they had lost 4 games in a row against Norwich, Burnley, Leicester and Chelsea. Some of those could be justifiable but defeats to Burnley and Norwich would have been seen as points dropped and the loss to Norwich was the Canaries first win of the season.

Brentford have a much better away record than at home, where from 18 points they have earned just four at home. The Arsenal victory on the opening day of the season remains their only win here so far.

Everton like their hosts have been in poor form and are in 11th place with 15 points if they were to lose this game then Brentford would go past them.

Last weekend Everton lost 3-0 at Manchester City and whilst a defeat was expected it may have been worrying for manager Rafa Bentitez that his sides overall performance felt negative and really let City play. That game is over though and in truth it’s no shame to lose to the champions but overall results have still been poor.

Just like Brentford it’s 1 point earned from their last 15 and that was a 0-0 draw at home to Tottenham. There have been recent defeats against Wolves, Watford and West Ham, all three teams you would have suspected Everton could have picked up points from. Five of the teams 15 points have come away from home and the Toffees have not won on the road since beating Brighton 3 months ago.

Team News:

Brentford: Kristoffer Ajer is out long term until early next year with a hamstring injury, he joins Josh Da Silva and David Raya Martin who are also long term absentees. Zanka is a major doubt with a muscle issue.

Everton: Allan will be assessed with a muscle injury but is being tipped to be out. Andre Gomes looks very likely to miss out again due to a calf injury. Dominic Calvert-Lewin is still out with a thigh injury. Tom Davies is out with a knee injury, Abdoulaye Doucoure is being tipped to return for this game as he tries to get his fitness level up. Demarai Gray will be assessed ahead of the game. Mason Holgate is suspended due to his red card vs Tottenham.

Brentford vs Everton Head to Head:

The teams last played in 2010 in the League Cup with that game ending 1-1 although Brentford won on the penalty shoot-out.

Because the teams have hardly played each other Everton’s last win away to Brentford came back in 1952.

The clubs have played each other just 17 times. Everton have won 7 times, Brentford have 8 wins and there has been two draws.

Brentford vs Everton Prediction:

This is a problem for Everton because all of the pressure will be on them to perform and get the three points. All eyes will be on Rafa Benitez and his team, they will be the side expected to come here, play good football and win and this is set up for the ‘underdogs’ Brentford perfectly, it really is.

Coupled with the fact that Everton have been in poor form but also come into this game carrying key injuries, this is no disrespect to Everton but the home side will have to play poorly for Everton to get anything here.

What we have noticed about the Bees is how they up their game against the bigger sides. True Everton have hardly set the Premier League alight in recent years but to Brentford Everton will be that big team who have had years in the top flight coming down to visit them in a very rare visit. Everton could be in for a long afternoon.
