Brentford vs Everton: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 27th August 2022
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Brentford Community Stadium

Match Preview:

Brentford have had a great start to the new season earning 4 points from their first 9 and it is clear that manager Thomas Frank has installed into his team the importance of getting a good start given the club could struggle further down the line.

However the Bees did lose last weekend as they went down 3-2 away to Fulham but even in that game they attempted a comeback and it was a close encounter. One has to wonder how afraid Everton should be given that Brentford’s last home game ended in them thrashing Manchester United 4-0? The bottom line is that the home side have scored 8 goals already and only Arsenal and Manchester City have netted more and it does bode well, if you are scoring goals you can quickly recover from any setbacks such as last weekend. In midweek Frank’s side advanced in the Carabao Cup with a 2-0 win over Colchester.

Everton have managed just 1 point from their first 9, but they will try to not panic just yet. Last weekend was disappointing for the club though who could only draw 1-1 with newly promoted Nottingham Forest at home. It was a game where the Toffees were trailing at one point. Perhaps manager Frank Lampard has to worried that his side only seem to step into gear when they go behind in games as the same could be said against Aston Villa also, in a game they eventually lost 2-1. While the panic button isn’t quite on just yet if this game leads to another defeat having no wins from 4 games would certainly start the worries once again for the famous club.

In midweek Everton squeezed past Fleetwood Town 1-0 in the Carabao Cup and Lampard chose 8 regulars. The result was the right one of course for Everton but it still lead some observers to criticise the club who had two shots on target less than the League one side.

Team News:

Brentford: Kristoffer Ajer and Sergi Canos may both be assessed but are pencilled in to return next week so this game may come too soon for the pair. Ethan Pinnock is out long term with a knee injury.

Everton: Andre Gomes is touch and go to return for this game from his muscle injury and will be assessed. Abdoulaye Doucoure is out for the next 2 weeks at least with a hamstring injury. Ben Godfrey is not scheduled to return until November with his leg injury. Yerry Mina is out for 6-8 weeks with his ankle, Andros Townsend is out until October with a knee injury. Dominic Calvert-Lewin has a knee injury and is not scheduled to return for another three weeks.

Brentford vs Everton Head to Head:

Everton have won just 1 of the last four meetings between the sides.

Last season this fixture finished 1-0 to Brentford.

The last 2 meetings has produced 10 goals.

Brentford vs Everton Prediction:

The win market is wide open and that should be no surprise as there is little between the clubs coming into this game. Brentford have played some good football and we should expect them to attack from the beginning. Everton are in a bit of a rut, they tend to start games slowly and this has been the case with the past few managers not just Lampard but in order to win this game they need to score early and quieten the crowd. The problem for Everton is that Brentford have their tails up at the moment and are scoring goals and one could easily see Everton concede here and then be on the back foot, so it is tempting to back the home side to get the points and let’s not forget they did the double over Everton last season despite losing the FA Cup meeting.

There are worries up front for Everton and now the latest news is that Anthony Gordon might be leaving for Chelsea. Sometimes when this happens but it isn’t quite confirmed managers tend to drop players from the first team, could this be the case here? This is also a fixture that tends to produce a few penalties and that market should be taken on at good odds.
