England Premier League
Saturday 26th August 2023
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Brentford Community Stadium
Match Preview:
Brentford have had a positive start to the season and if you score goals it is always a very good sign of what could be ahead. The Bees have notched in five goals already from two games and will come into this game with a lot of confidence. It has been a terrific return so far underlined by the fact that their main forward Ivan Toney is suspended by the FA until January.
Brentford have drawn 2-2 at home with Tottenham and last weekend they thumped Fulham 3-0 away from home, no mean feat given that it was Fulham’s first home game of the season. For now the club are in fourth place and can keep up momentum with a win at the weekend.
Crystal Palace got off to a positive start by beating newly promoted Sheffield United 1-0 away from home, but they followed that up by losing by the same scoreline at home to Arsenal. In truth losing to last season's runners up isn’t the worst thing that could happen and the Eagles had chances to draw the game but couldn’t finish the Gunners off even playing against 10 men. So Monday’s defeat at home was an obvious disappointment but what Roy Hodgson’s team have done is be tight in defence and that could bode very well for the season ahead.
Team News:
Brentford: Ben Mee is recovering from a calf injury but is being tipped to be fine for this game. Joshua Dasilva will be assessed following his recent hamstring injury. Ivan Toney is suspended until January.
Crystal Palace: Malcolm Ebiowei has fitness issues and looks set to miss this game but could be back in 10 days. Matheus Franca remains out with a back injury. Will Hughes is out with a knee injury, Michael Olise misses out again due to his hamstring injury.
Brentford vs Crystal Palace Head to Head:
Last season the clubs drew 1-1 in this fixture.
The last 4 meetings have all ended in draws.
Crystal Palace have not beaten Brentford away from home since 1957 although it’s worth noting that the teams have only played each other four times since 1977.
Brentford vs Crystal Palace Prediction:
This is looking like quite a close game where the odd mistake proves costly. Crystal Palace are much better than some may think and once they have a fully fit squad they could well go on a decent run. The worry for the Eagles is that their new signing Matheus Franca is still out and he is supposed to be a very exciting prospect. Michael Olise is quality too and he is still missing, so for now it is difficult to see the club having many good plays and opportunities on goal.
Brentford are scoring goals and they looked fearless against a decent Tottenham side a couple of weeks ago, being at home is another advantage and we think that the Bees can get the job done here. In Ivan Toney’s absence other players have had to really stand up and we are looking at Bryan Mbeumo in particular who is grasping this opportunity to the maximum and playing good football. It also helps of course that he scored not one but two goals last weekend in the thumping of Fulham in London and he will be raring to go here. While our selections will include a home win, think of your main selection as him scoring in the anytime market, Palace will do well to keep him quiet.
Brentford vs Crystal Palace Betting Tips:
