England Premier League
Saturday 12th March 2022
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Brentford Community Stadium
Match Preview:
This is a game that feels like Brentford’s chance to escape relegation worries and the Bees will fancy their chances to win this game at home. Recent terrible form was stopped in its tracks for Thomas Frank’s side this past weekend as they beat Norwich 3-1 to move up to 27 points and they come into this weekend six points adrift of the bottom three. But this is huge six pointer so to speak as they are facing 18th placed Burnley.
The atmosphere at Brentford can really help the side on, though they have still struggled at home and have lost 8 games from 14 played. The clubs last home victory came back at the beginning of the year as they beat Aston Villa but since then from a possible 12 points at home they have won just 1.
It isn’t over for Burnley with the games left to play but they have twice blown the chance to climb out of the bottom three in the last week and dump Everton into 18th. First it was against Leicester in a 2-0 defeat at home and then they followed that up with another home loss against Chelsea where they were, in the end, crushed 4-0. Those defeats could take their toll with no goals scored and six conceded and that would be unfortunate for a side who have been punching above their weight in the last six weeks as they try to survive in the league.
The good news for Burnley is that just one point separates them from 17th and if they won here they would go into 16th place and above Leeds too at least until Sunday. However Sean Dyche’s team has one of the worst away records in the league with just 9 points earned from a possible 39 and they have tasted victory on the road just once this season. However the club are undefeated away from home in their last three games with their last away game finishing 1-1 against Crystal Palace.
Team News:
Brentford: Josh Da Silva is still serving his suspension and won’t return until next month. Christian Norgaard has a muscle injury and will have to be assessed. Kristoffer Ajer has a knock and will also be assessed.
Burnley: Dale Stephens is only rated as 50/50 due to fitness issues. Gundmundsson and Ben Mee are out for at least the next 3 weeks due to a calf and knee injury respectively. Erik Pieters has been ruled out for three weeks also due to his knee. In a case of Mr. Bean Matej Vydra has recovered from his hernia problem which has kept him out for several weeks but has now injured his arm, dislocating his shoulder in the process and has been ruled out for the rest of the month.
Brentford vs Burnley Head to Head:
The clubs have not played at Brentford since 2016, it was in the FA Cup and Burnley won 3-0.
Burnley have won the last five meetings between the clubs and the last time Brentford won was back in 1997.
Earlier this season in the reverse fixture Burnley won 3-1.
There is a 70% chance to see both teams to score.
Brentford vs Burnley Prediction:
Usually in a match up of these two teams where technical quality will not be in abundance we could be looking at a dull match that becomes physical and with few chances, but we don’t see this happening at the weekend. This could well end up being, for entertainment, one of the best games of the weekend in the Premier League. There is so much on the line and there is no point in the teams not taking some risk.
For Brentford they have a genuine chance to pull clear and for Burnley they could suddenly be in 16th place after spending the majority of the year in the relegation zone. Of course Sean Dyche’s team will come here with a hit to their confidence after their last two games but they must regroup against a team who do not have a good home record and a team where Burnley have a very good record over them.
The value in prices is very open, we think both sides can score and that should be taken on and we will back Burnley to get at least a point from this encounter, but this could be a very close game.
