Brentford vs Brighton: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Friday 14th October 2022
Kick off at 8pm BST
Venue: Brentford Community Stadium

Match Preview:

Ever since Ivan Toney came into the attention of England manager Gareth Southgate with his goals and his hat-trick against Leeds a month ago, Toney has stopped scoring and Brentford have stopped winning. At home in this evening game could be the perfect moment for Brentford to get back to winning ways.

It’s been just one point gained from a possible nine lately with defeats against Arsenal and Newcastle and a draw away to Bournemouth. That defeat against Newcastle finished in a 5-1 battering and of concern to the club will be that they have conceded 8 goals in their two recent losses. Still it’s not time to hit the panic button just yet as the club have 10 points and are in 11th place. At home it’s only one defeat from 4 played and that was against league leaders Arsenal. They are also averaging 2 goals per game at home.

Brighton are in 7th place and have 14 points and the club suffered their first loss under new manager Roberto De Zerbi with a 1-0 defeat against Tottenham at home. The Seagulls had chances to finish the game as a draw and certainly played their part in the narrow loss. That game followed a thrilling 3-3 draw away to Liverpool and it would be fair to say that De Zerbi has been thrown in at the deep end with his first two games being these very tough fixtures. Still it’s just one win in their last four for the club and this fixture looks very tricky for them also. Victory though would take them into 4th place at least for 24 hours.

Team News:

Brentford: Keane Lewis-Potter looks set to miss out again with his foot injury but should be available next week. Christian Norgaard is missing with his Achilles injury, Pontus Jansson is out long term with his hamstring injury.

Brighton: The Seagulls have no new injuries but Jakub Moder is out long term with his knee injury.

Brentford vs Brighton Head to Head:

Last season Brighton won this meeting by 1-0, indeed Brighton won both games last term.

It’s been 8 years since Brentford recorded a win over Brighton when at home.

There is a 70% chance to see under 2.5 goals.

Brentford vs Brighton Prediction:

Brentford and Brighton have been a surprise this season by how they have both started, and especially with the home side as this moment in time we don’t see them struggling this season. They do need to find a bit more consistency though if they have aspirations of a top half finish to the season and Ivan Toney as good as he is, he tends to also have quiet periods, especially at home his club need him to be scoring goals.

Brighton have been decent in their two games under De Zerbi, now 1 point from six doesn’t suggest that but having to play Liverpool followed by Tottenham is no mean feat and in both games they have played good football. If they can replicate those performances they can come here and get a good result. Leandro Trossard has really punched above his weight in terms of the amount of goals he can score from his position and we will back him to score again for the Seagulls. Let’s also note that in the teams last two meetings Trossard scored both times, so he could be really good value. Caution though it is never easy to play an away fixture in the evening against a huge and vocal home support but Brighton have genuine quality in the side and have a recent good record over their opponents so we will opt to back the visitors.
