Brentford vs Bournemouth: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 2nd September 2023
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Brentford Community Stadium

Match Preview:

Brentford have got off to a solid start and are unbeaten with one win and two draws and they should be confident coming into this game. At home the club have already held Tottenham to a 2-2 draw and Crystal Palace to a 1-1 draw, so no defeats but home fans are still waiting to see a victory. Away from home the Bees have got down to work though and certainly stung Fulham, running out 3-0 winners. Currently Thomas Frank’s side are in 9th place but will rise as much as six positions if they can get a win here.

Bournemouth have been at the opposite end and are searching for their first win of the season. There have been some tough fixtures to navigate so perhaps there is no need for panic just yet but they have lost two games in a row as they went down to Liverpool and Tottenham, and conceded five goals in those games. Their sole point so far has come at home to West Ham when the Cherries were able to come back from a losing position to draw 1-1. While this game doesn’t seem beyond reach to get something from it, the worry will be away form for the club and one would expect the Cherries to get more joy at home overall. While Brentford have had a much better start to the campaign it is worth noting that if Bournemouth were to win at the weekend they would only go a point behind their hosts, so there is all to play for here.

Team News:

Brentford: Shandon Baptiste has dislocated his shoulder and he faces a lengthy spell out. Mikkel Damsgaard has a knock but will be assessed and has a chance to play. Joshua Dasilva is out with a hamstring injury. Thomas Strakosha has a knock and will be assessed and Ivan Toney is suspended until January.

Bournemouth: Tyler Adams, Dango Ouattara, Emiliano Marcondes, Alex Scott, Ryan Fredericks and Adam Smith are all out on longer term injuries. Marcus Tavernier has a knock and will be assessed but it has caused him to miss the start of the season.

Brentford vs Bournemouth Prediction:

The markets see these two teams as quite close for now so there is some value to be had and even though the home side are odds on it isn’t too bad at all. One could have expected Brentford to struggle with main goalscorer Ivan Toney suspended for so long but that hasn’t been the case and the good news is that the Bees are scoring goals which is always a good sign. While we expect them at times to struggle this season, the club reminds us of Bolton from 15 years ago, a side that could remain solid at home and we expect Frank’s side to do just that and be fine this season.

Life for Bournemouth has been topsy turvy and many still believe the sacking of Gary O’ Neil was unjustified. New manager Andoni Iraola has not started well but again the fixtures have not been kind, so we will find out more about his side in this game where the teams are more equal. But this game being away and the fact that the Cherries have a poor recent record over the Bees means that we will be backing the home side to get the points.
