England Premier League
Saturday 22nd April 2023
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Brentford Community Stadium
Match Preview:
Like Fulham and Brighton, Brentford have been a breath of fresh air this season and while usually these teams could be fighting for survival they have all excelled and perhaps one of them will even play European football next season. However the season is long and it seems like tiredness has set in for Thomas Frank’s side who have no wins in their last five games and have lost their last three.
The Bees are now down to 9th place with 43 points and have slipped four points behind Liverpool who also have a game in hand. Last weekend Brentford were beaten 2-0 at Wolves and their home record has seen just one win in their past four. Indeed the Bees lost their last home game as they went down 2-1 against Newcastle but overall they have been solid here winning seven games and losing just two. The problem at home has been the amount of draws with six so far and had they been converted into wins then Frank’s side would be in 5th place.
Aston Villa alongside Manchester City are the most in form side in the league having won their last 5 games and Unai Emery’s side have gone from trying to survive, to mid table, and now to a possible European finish, it has been nothing short of spectacular. Villa come into this weekend in 6th place with 50 points and while they will not be able to advance higher they could join Tottenham on 53 points if they win here and Tottenham lose against Newcastle. Villa’s last game was a resounding 3-0 victory over Newcastle and they have managed to score 7 goals in their last three outings. Recent away form has been impressive from Emery’s side with 10 points won from their last 12 and they haven't suffered a defeat on the road since losing to Manchester City over 2 months ago.

Brentford vs Aston Villa Head to Head:

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Aston Villa won 4-0.
Brentford have won the last 4 games against Aston Villa when at home.
4 of the 6 meetings has seen both teams to score.
Brentford vs Aston Villa Prediction:
The question here is can Aston Villa keep their magnificent run up and keep charging for European glory? The footballing Gods usually throw spanners into the works by this time and the script would come out with a strangely subdued Aston Villa side losing this game. However we don’t see that happening at all. What Emery is doing at the club is nothing short of fantastic and all of these players are on a mission. It may seem fanciful to say it but the club could even qualify for the Champions League next season if they keep this form up. More realistically it would be the Europa League but that would do just fine too after the start the club has had.
Brentford is never an easy game away from home but it makes sense to back the visitors who are full of confidence. The Bees lets remember have also lost much of their sting lately and are losing touch very rapidly to the top seven clubs.
