England Premier League
Sunday 17th December 2023
Kick off at 2pm GMT
Venue: Brentford Community Stadium
Match Preview:
Brentford are in 11th place and with 19 points after 16 games you get the feeling that they would have taken that at the beginning of the season. However Thomas Frank’s side have slipped and are in poor form coming into this game with four defeats from their last five games. These have come against quality teams in Brighton, Arsenal and Liverpool but last weekend would have felt poor losing against bottom club Sheffield United. Home form has been good recently and the Bees have won 3 of their last four games and for a team in the bottom half of the table losing just twice at home isn’t a terrible record.
Aston Villa have been fantastic and are worrying some of the more elite sides. It has been incredible to see the club beat both Manchester City and Arsenal in recent weeks and Villa have earned 13 points from their last five games. The club come into this weekend in 3rd place and with 35 points are just 2 behind league leaders Liverpool. Indeed depending on results there is a chance that Unai Emery’s side could even go top of the league with a win here. More realistically they have a chance to go 2nd and keep up pace with the title challengers. Away form hasn’t been as good as home with 11 points won from 24 although Villa have managed to go unbeaten in their last two games with a 2-1 win over Tottenham and a draw against Bournemouth. It’s also just one loss away from home in their last five games. All round Villa are looking strong and should be feared and respected.

Brentford vs Aston Villa Prediction:
On the face of it this game looks like an Aston Villa victory and one glance at the league table and it is easy to see why. But we believe that the home side can be a threat and there is some good value on backing the double chance on Thomas Frank’s side which would cover the draw. Villa have been hit by a double suspension of regular players, that is like taking 20% of everything good about the club this season out of the system, add to the fact that they are away from home and playing a side that in recent seasons they have struggled against on the road and we believe this means Brentford can pose more of a problem than first thought.
Both clubs have some key injuries but these are the types of games that Villa need to consistently win to become a threat, no matter how good their home form is and we have seen some evidence already this season that this side are more than capable of dropping points away from home, that could be the case this weekend.
