England Premier League
Saturday 25th November 2023
Kick off at 5:30pm GMT
Venue: Brentford Community Stadium
Match Preview:
Brentford’s 3 game winning run came to an end just before the international break as they were beaten 3-0 away to Liverpool. But one has to wonder if such an expected result would affect the Bees too much and they will concentrate on how they have recently beaten West Ham, Chelsea and Burnley. Thomas Frank’s side will be attempting to beat their third London club in under a month and they have lost just one game at home in their past five. So far the majority of the club's results at home have been draws with 60% ending this way.
Brentford are in 11th place with 16 points and are on course for a solid season but they would like to finish in a European place and home form will determine if they do or not. Arsenal are in 3rd place with 27 points and are just a point behind league leaders Manchester City in a closely tight knit group. While the Gunners have been one of the best teams in the league so far they have experienced a wobble which has seen them win seven points from their last 12. Their first defeat of the season was inflicted away to Newcastle in what many thought, including manager Mikel Arteta, was a controversial losing goal. However with other clubs around them dropping points the defeat hasn’t harmed their cause too much.
Away form has seen three wins from five games but they have failed to win on the road for the last two games. While we have mentioned the Newcastle loss the Gunners also drew 2-2 against Chelsea although this was a positive draw given that they were losing 2-0. Arsenal could go top of the table this weekend if Manchester City drop points but a win would also keep them well in the title hunt.
Team News:
Brentford: Keane Lewis-Potter, Saman Ghoddos, Joshua Dasilva and Mikkel Damsgaard will all be assessed but remain doubtful for the weekend. Nathan Collins isn’t expected to return for at least two weeks with an ankle injury. Aaron Hickey and Kevin Schade are not expected back until early next year. Henry Rico is out for the season with a knee injury and Ivan Toney is suspended.
Arsenal: Fabio Vieira is suspended and not available for two weeks. Martin Odegaard will need to be assessed due to a hip injury. David Raya cannot face his parent club and is unavailable. Thomas Partey is out with a muscle injury. Emile Smith-Rowe is unlikely to make this game as he tries to recover from a knee injury.
Brentford vs Arsenal Head to Head:
Last season Arsenal won this fixture 3-0.
Brentford have not beaten Arsenal for five games going back two years.
The last two games have both seen under 2.5 goals.
The teams have played 18 times and there has never been a 0-0.
Brentford vs Arsenal Prediction:
We expect Arsenal to win this game but it will be tricky for them but their recent record over the Bees has been strong and they have come here and beaten them this year in the EFL Cup too. Arsenal have taken a wobble of late by their standards but since then they have been able to ease past Burnley and have done well in Europe. These types of games can be hard for quality sides and Brentford have been stubborn at home enough to have a say. Arsenal will have to be at the top of their game but you look around the side, there are goals but also hunger and passion since coming close last season. They look solid at home but they will need to be consistent away too and these types of games could determine so much as we come ever nearer to the halfway stage of the season.
