Bournemouth vs Tottenham: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Thursday 9th July 2020
Kick off at 6pm BST
Venue: Vitality Stadium

Match Preview:

Bournemouth scored 2 goals at Old Trafford in their last game and yet that didn’t mean anything as they conceded 5 and Eddie Howe’s team remain one of the favourites to be relegated this season.

The latest loss at Manchester United means that the club have now been beaten 20 times this season. With Watford winning they are in their first serious trouble of the season as they have fallen 4 points from safety. For weeks it stood at just one point and there was always hope but that is now fading.

Whilst the club will return to play at home their opponent is a dangerous one in Tottenham who are chasing a European finish.

Tottenham’s mood has brightened up as they were able to put the recent Sheffield United loss to bed with a win over Everton. The game finished 1-0 in an otherwise dull match, even the winning goal was an own goal by poor Michael Keane. Indeed the game was so lethargic at times the altercation between Tottenham players made the headlines instead.

Hugo Loris and Heung Son-Meung clashed at half time, with goalkeeper Loris not happy with Son who wasn’t tracking back during an Everton attack.

Still despite the quality of the game it was three points for Tottenham who are now on 48 points and are in 8th place. This match will be the clubs game in hand over Arsenal just above them and a win would see them climb in front of their old rival ahead of a mouthwatering derby clash, so there is all to play for here.

Team News:

Bournemouth: The club are hopeful that Simon Francis can return after missing a succession of games due to a knee injury. Chris Mepham has a knee injury but it is thought not to be too serious. Jack Simpson could return after missing the last game with a calf injury.

Tottenham: No new injuries for the club coming into this game.

Bournemouth vs Tottenham Head to Head:

Earlier in the season Tottenham beat Bournemouth 3-2.

Last season this fixture ended 1-0 to Bournemouth.

This is a fixture that traditionally has goals in it, there have been 16 in the last 4 league meetings.

Bournemouth vs Tottenham Prediction:

Even though Bournemouth were outclassed in the end by Manchester United there was a hint of fight within the team and Eddie Howe will be hoping his side can show more of it against Tottenham. Their survival is slipping away but they should be able to ask Tottenham a few questions.

However Jose Mourinho’s side will be feeling a bit more relived and confident after the Everton game. In a way Mourinho was right to be happy to see Loris and Son clashing, because as he pointed out it shows that the players care. He will be looking at them taking those frustrations and making them into positives on the pitch. Tottenham are fighting for two things now, which is European football for next season and finishing above Arsenal, a win here would boost two of those objectives.
