England Premier League
Wednesday 19th October 2022
Kick off at 7:30pm BST
Venue: Vitality Stadium
Match Preview:
Bournemouth keep on picking up the points even when the odds seem stacked against them and they have now gone six games unbeaten since their 9-0 loss at Liverpool. Indeed under interim manager Gary O’ Neil they haven’t lost a game and surely he will be given the post on a permanent basis now.
At the weekend the Cherries drew 2-2 away to Fulham though they had taken the lead twice in the game, and so perhaps were disappointed with the final result but a point away from home isn’t a terrible result and they have 13 points coming into this game and are in 10th place. Keep this form up and the club will be very much safe this season. Home form has seen the club go their last 3 games unbeaten and they have only lost once here so far. Their last home match finished in a 2-1 win over Leicester.
Southampton took the lead against West Ham at the weekend but that game finished in a 1-1 draw. The Saints are in the bottom three in 18th place and are trailing their hosts by 5 points. The draw at least stopped a 4 game losing run for Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side. On the road there isn’t much to get excited about with 3 defeats in a row, their last match ended in a 4-0 loss to Manchester City, that was expected but they have also lost to Aston Villa and Wolves recently. Those two defeats don’t bode well for the season given that Villa and Wolves have also been struggling so far.
Team News:
Bournemouth: Lloyd Kelly is out with an ankle injury, David Brooks is still missing with a hamstring injury. Ben Pearson could be included in the squad but will need to be assessed due to a lack of match fitness.
Southampton: Armel Kotchap has a shoulder dislocation and will be assessed, but is a doubt. Romeo Lavia is doing better with his muscle injury but this game may come too soon for him. Valentino Livramento is out for the rest of the year with a long term knee injury.
Bournemouth vs Southampton Head to Head:
The teams have not played this fixture for two years and Southampton won 2-0.
Bournemouth have not beaten Southampton when at home for 6 years.
3 of the last 4 meetings has seen over 2.5 goals.
Bournemouth vs Southampton Prediction:
Bournemouth keep gaining points and have a real never say die attitude about them. Being back at home and facing a team struggling you would expect that they can get at least a point. It was good for them to see Dominic Solanke scoring again in his last game and we will back him again to score anytime. Bournemouth have a real zest about them but there is a suggestion that we are all waiting for Gary O’Neil to lose a game and then see how his side react. But at the present time they are playing good football and even though the Saints has a good recent record over them we favour the home side. It’s possible that after being pegged back twice against Fulham the Cherries will be determined to put that memory to bed and get all three points here. They need to take advantage of their good form now because there is no guarantee how long it will last.
