Bournemouth ended 4 games without a win when they defeated Huddersfield 2-0 last weekend. But with all due respect beating the bottom team who are in theory already down is nothing to get excited about.

The good news for Eddie Howe’s side is that they are 9 points clear of the bottom three and their Premier League status is under no threat as they prepare for the visit of Newcastle.

Depending on other results, a win here could see the team break into the top 10 and at home they have just one defeat this year against Manchester City and even that game only ended 1-0.

Take out the West Ham defeat and Newcastle are in very good form. That was underlined last weekend when they came back from 2 goals down with 25 minutes remaining to beat Everton 3-2.

However Rafa Benitez will be the first to admit that the team fall apart on the road and they come into this game with just 2 wins away from home all season and just 2 points won from their last 15 available. The Magpies biggest problem has been scoring goals away from home, they have just 10 all season only Cardiff and Huddersfield have a worse record.

Bournemouth: Adam Smith is out with a hamstring injury and looks set to miss the rest of the month. Steve Cook could miss at least a month with a groin injury and an infection

Newcastle: Ciaran Clark still has a knock and there is no updates about him, so he is a doubt for this match. Jamaal Lascelles is trying to be fit for this game after his knee injury and could be assessed. Fabian Schar is suspended for this game after picking up his 10^th yellow card of the season

There isn’t much in terms of difference in quality between the two sides and this really could go either way. However Bournemouth tend to play more attacking and are more daring at home and have a really solid record at the Vitality. Newcastle keep struggling on the road, but at the same time are only losing by 1 goal margins the majority of the time, and this is why we are tempted to go with the double chance on Benitez’s team. The home side are not as confident as they were before the Christmas period and Newcastle could join Bournemouth on the same points (37) with a win here, so there is a lot to play for.
