England Premier League
Saturday 11th February 2023
Kick off at 5:30pm GMT
Venue: Vitality Stadium
Match Preview:
This match up will see the return of Eddie Howe to his former club and he will be hoping that Bournemouth don’t do a Brighton on him and get motivated. A few months ago after Graham Potter left Brighton for bigger heights and Chelsea, the Seagulls delivered a knockout 4-1 victory. Not many people would think this could happen at the weekend given how brilliant Newcastle have been so far this season and they also have a fantastic defence, in short they will start as the favourites but they have themselves been dropping a few points lately.
First onto Bournemouth who are in 19th place with 17 points and look like they are in for a very tough fight to survive in the league. Yet it is so tight down there that a win at the weekend could well see them out of the bottom three. The omens do not look good though with just 1 point won from their last 15 on offer. Only a recent 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest have given the club any small light at the end of the tunnel and last weekend they returned to their losing ways once again as they went down 1-0 away to Brighton to record their 12th defeat of the season.
Newcastle are dreaming big and they have reached the final of the EFL Cup where they will play Manchester United in what should be a mouthwatering game. Newcastle have not won any trophies in almost 60 years and that is simply too long for them, so you could say that a lot of their focus will be on that game. Surely most fans would want a trophy rather than a top four finish at this moment in time but perhaps the Magpies could well achieve both. Form has taken a hit though and even though Howe’s side have incredibly only lost 1 game so far they are drawing too many and have drawn 4 of their last 5 games. That means that Tottenham have caught them up and could well surpass them this weekend. Newcastle have recorded three 0-0 results in their last five games and with just 12 goals conceded they have by far the best defensive record in the league.
The Magpies have slipped 3 points behind third placed Manchester United although they do have a game in hand and they also have a game extra over Tottenham in 5th although the Londoners are just a point behind. Away from home Howe’s side has the 3rd best record in the league but have drawn 50% of their games including their last two.

Marcus Travenier could be assessed after his hamstring injury but is only 50/50 to return.

Bournemouth vs Newcastle Head to Head:
The clubs haven’t played here since 2020 when Newcastle won 4-1.
The teams have played two times this season once in the league where Newcastle won 1-0 and then in the EFL Cup where after 90 minutes they drew 1-1.
6 from the last 7 meetings has seen both teams to score.
Bournemouth have not beaten Newcastle when at home since 1989.
Bournemouth vs Newcastle Prediction:
Newcastle need to get back on track and will need to start this game aggressively. It must be frustrating over the last few weeks for Eddie Howe to see his side drop points when they have dominated games and had the best chances and they could be throwing away a possible top four finish with the amount of draws they have had.
Bournemouth are fighting and that can make them dangerous but the key here is if they go down early then there doesn’t seem anyway back for the Cherries. Newcastle have so many options that we see them having no real problems winning this game.
