England Premier League
Saturday 20th May 2023
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Vitality Stadium
Match Preview:
Bournemouth have been home and dry for a few weeks now and perhaps that is why they have lost their last two games, the job to survive in the Premier League was achieved earlier than believed after a burst of good form in April. The Cherries have risen to 14th place and have 39 points. It’s difficult for the club to stay motivated at this point given that their worst position is likely to be 15th and their best 13th but this will be the clubs last home game of the season and one would expect the players to turn up and put in a shift for the fans.
It’s worth noting that Bournemouth’s majority home result has been losses with 8 from 18 games played and that includes losing 3 of their last four. Their last home win came against Leeds by 4-1 but in recent times they have lost here to the likes of West Ham, Chelsea and Brighton. Manchester United will be the favourites to win this game and it is a game that is a must win given that Liverpool have a chance to catch up Erik ten Hag’s side and possibly dump them out of a top four finish. United’s form has not been good enough lately with losses to Brighton and West Ham although they did beat Aston Villa in their last game, it has been clear to see that the Red Devils are struggling away from home. While the club have won 7 games away from home they have also lost 8, and won just one game from their last five, collecting just four points from their last 15. So while Ten Hag’s side will be the favourites to win here there needs to be some caution.
Team News:
Bournemouth: Antoine Semenyou has a leg injury and could well be ruled out for the season. Hamed Traore could be assessed following his foot injury which has kept him out for the last few weeks. Junior Stanilas, Marcus Taverneir and Ryan Fredericks are all out for the season.
Manchester United: Marcus Rashford could be assessed following a leg injury but remains a doubt, Scott McTominay may miss out again due to a knock. Marcel Sabitzer has a knock and will have to be assessed.
Bournemouth vs Man Utd Head to Head:
The last time the clubs met here was in 2019 and Bournemouth won 1-0.
Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Manchester United won 3-0.
Manchester United have won 8 out of the last 10 meetings.
Manchester United have scored 8 goals past Bournemouth in the last two meetings.
Bournemouth vs Man Utd Prediction:
Manchester United’s latest victory which came against Wolves was reported as one sided and predictable and we are at that point of the season where United the superior side are still playing for something while their opponents are not and this is why we think this could be an away banker for this weekend. Granted United did lose here last time out but that was four years ago and they are in a different place and mindset now and have a great record over their opponents.
Bournemouth will want to give a good account of themselves given that this is their final home game of the season but we see them being overrun by a talented yet flawed side. United have goals in them, so much so that they won’t be sweating over if Marcus Rashford is fit or not. United have been able to score 8 goals past the Cherries in the last two meetings and we expect a few more goals today in what should be an entertaining game.
