Bournemouth vs Luton: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 16th December 2023
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Vitality Stadium

Match Preview:

Name the best form club in the Premier League? Would anyone have thought of Bournemouth? While themselves, Liverpool, and Aston Villa have all earned 13 points from their last five games Bournemouth’s goal difference is superior and Andoni Iraola is doing a solid job given that he was tasked with a difficult one at the beginning of the season.

The Cherries are in 14th place and with 19 points they are a cool 10 points from the bottom three and already they look well on their way to not just safety but even a top half finish is not out of the question. Recent form has seen wins over Crystal Palace and Newcastle but let’s talk about last weekend when they went to Old Trafford and spanked Manchester United 3-0. That was a terrific result and they have also drawn with the team of the moment Aston Villa, in short Bournemouth are not to be taken lightly.

Luton have actually played with purpose lately and been unlucky but the Premier League doesn’t care about that such is the level and the Hatters despite playing well have lost their last 3 games. They have had some incredibly difficult games too including having to play Arsenal where they almost finished the game at 3-3 until conceding a very late goal. That was followed up by the visit of Manchester City, and Luton scored first before losing 2-1. What has been evident with the club is that they are not ones to start losing by big scores and especially at home have been able to keep final scores respectable. On the road they have lost 6 of eight games played with just one win which came against Everton. However they have also lost their last three in a row away from home with their latest ending in a 3-1 loss to Brentford.

Team News:

Bournemouth: Emilaino Marcondes could return for this game after a lengthy spell out but has a lack of match fitness and will need to be assessed. Hamed Traore could return after illness. Maximillian Aarons is not expected back until Boxing Day with a hamstring injury. Tyler Adams, Ryan Fredericks, Lloyd Kelly and Alex Scott all remain out long term.

Luton: Marvelous Nakamba is suspended for this game after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season. Reece Burke is only 50/50 to return after his hamstring injury and this game may come too soon for him. Cauley Woodrow remains a major doubt to return from his calf injury. Daniel Potts remains sidelined with an ankle injury.

Bournemouth vs Luton Head to Head:

It’s been two years since the club’s last played each other in this fixture, which was in the Championship and Bournemouth won 2-1.

There is a 60% chance to see over 2.5 goals.

Bournemouth vs Luton Prediction:

Luton have big problems- they have recently been boosted by Everton’s 10 point deduction which witnessed the Toffees fall below Luton. But now Everton are the safety belt for Luton in 17th place, so not only leapfrogging them but there is now a 4 point gap. If Luton are to stay up this season then it will come down to their home games not away ones and they are unlucky to be facing a side that normally would be nearer to their equal but the home side are in great form and we don’t expect them to be dropping points at home to the team in 19th place.

Bournemouth are on a high and manager Iraloa will understand that they will have to keep up good momentum, it will inevitably end so they need as many points on the board that they can get. What has been so encouraging for Bournemouth is not just the recent victories but their overall display and how they are scoring goals, they have converted 10 goals in their last four games alone and perhaps this is not something we would have expected to see. The goalscorers market is wide open, and the club have a few to ‘cherry’ pick from this weekend.
