England Premier League
Saturday 31st December 2022
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Vitality Stadium
Match Preview:
Bournemouth have lost 4 of their last 5 games and with 16 points they could well be dragged into the relegation fight soon enough. In their Boxing Day clash with Chelsea they were not expected to get anything away from home and they didn’t as they lost that one 2-0. But at home to Crystal Palace they will be expected to get something and these are the types of games that they will need to win if they want to survive this season.
From 16 games they have lost 8 and at home the Cherries have collected 11 points from a possible 24. With just 9 goals scored at home only Everton and Wolves have a poorer record although the club doesn’t have the worst home record they would only rank in 14th place based on home form alone.
Crystal Palace are in 11th place and are 3 points in front of Bournemouth with 19 points it’s easy to believe that Palace won’t be involved in a relegation fight but they could well be given their latest form which has seen 3 defeats in their last five including back to back ones coming into this fixture. Those defeats came against Nottingham Forest and just a few days ago they lost 3-0 at home to Fulham.
On the road the Eagles have won just once which came against West Ham and they have scored just 5 goals so far and it has been a real struggle for them away from home so far.
Team News:
Bournemouth: David Brooks remains a major doubt with his hamstring it is the same situation for Muara Neto. Marcus Tavernier is 50/50 to return from a knock.
Crystal Palace: Tyrick Mitchell is suspended for the next 3 games following his straight red card against Fulham. James Tomkins is suspended for this game after his sending off via two yellows against Fulham. Sam Johnstone is out with a back injury. Nathan Ferguson isn’t due back for another two weeks due to a lack of match fitness and James McArthur is sidelined with a hip injury.
Bournemouth vs Crystal Palace Head to Head:
The last time the teams played here was in 2020 in the Carabao Cup and that game ended 0-0.
The last league game here was also in 2020 and Crystal Palace won 2-0.
Crystal Palace have won 3 of the last four meetings.
The last 3 meetings have all seen under 2.5 goals.
Bournemouth vs Crystal Palace Prediction:
These are two sides that you imagine will be very close to one another when the season ends. Both would settle for mid table and anything more really would be a boost. For Palace there is a tinge of disappointment as the club looked to be improving last season and even heading into this one looked to be going in the right direction. That can still be accomplished but on recent form there are obvious problems.
It won’t be easy for manager Patrick Vieira heading into an away game with a team equal to his side and missing both Tyrick Mitchell and James Tomkins through suspension and one has to wonder if those absentees won’t come back to bite Palace?
This should be a close game with not too much in it and both sides need to find some form but we will back the home side to get back on track and they look to be facing Palace just at the right time to do so.
