England Premier League
Tuesday 4th April 2023
Kick off at 7:45pm BST
Venue: Vitality Stadium
Match Preview:
Bournemouth secured an epic win over Fulham at the weekend winning 2-1 and while the game was hardly a classic the word epic is justified when you are in the bottom three and win games with less than two months of the season left to play. The Cherries have given themselves a real chance and a real boost and that win took them into 16th place, a win on Tuesday could see them move up a further three places.
Brighton and Fulham have been impressive this season and after despatching Fulham Gary O’ Neil’s side have completed 50% of their mini project and quite simply that is trying to win these two home games. Indeed after beating Liverpool a few weeks ago this game could be their 3rd straight home win. Win at least your home games and you have every chance of staying up.
Brighton were involved in a six goal classic at the weekend as they came back three times to draw 3-3 with Brentford. The teams have had very similar seasons and indeed also have the same points with 43 each. Brighton have had a solid season but they might feel disappointed if it doesn’t result in a European finish. Currently they are in a Europa Conference League qualification but could aim for the Europa League given the games they have in hand over the teams above them and of course this match represents one of them.
The Seagulls have gone their last 4 games unbeaten and they are undefeated away from home this year earning 9 points from their last 15 on offer. Their last away game finished in a 2-2 draw with Leeds and with 24 goals on the road only Arsenal have scored more.
Team News:
Bournemouth: Ryan Fredericks is out with a calf injury, Junior Stanilas is also set to miss out with a knock but could be assessed.
Brighton: Tariq Lamptey will be assessed following his knee injury, Jeremy Sarimento could miss the rest of the season due to a foot injury picked up on international duty.
Bournemouth vs Brighton Head to Head:
The last time the teams played here was in 2020 and Bournemouth won 3-1.
Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Brighton won 1-0.
In the league Brighton have failed to beat Bournemouth as the away side in 16 years.
There is a current pattern of over and under goals and if this continues then this game would see over 2.5 goals.
Bournemouth vs Brighton Prediction:
Fulham were a test and by all accounts Brighton will be a bigger one given that the Seagulls don’t lose many away games and have a terrific recent record on the road. Gary O’ Neil is being tasked with survival and with it may come a longer contract. In the game against Fulham it was easy to see the hunger, spirit and passion from his players, granted they had to ride their luck at times but they came through. The game plan has to be to pick up maximum points at home whoever they face and there will be a real belief that this can be achieved given how they beat Liverpool last month.
Brighton haven’t been able to win games on a consisent basis and it means that they may miss out on a Europa League place but a lot of credit has to be given to the club when there not winning they are not losing either. Perhaps something has to give though and playing away games in the Premier League coupled with it being an evening game is very difficult and we think this makes Bournemouth very good value on the handicap.
