Bournemouth vs Arsenal: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 30th September 2023
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Vitality Stadium

Match Preview:

Bournemouth are looking for their first win of the season after six games but having to face Arsenal not many will expect the Cherries to break their duck. The club are in 17th place and two points from the bottom three. Last weekend they were beaten 3-1 at Brighton but they had gone their previous two games unbeaten with draws against Brentford and Chelsea.

It’s early days of course but you sense that Bournemouth’s season could be dictated by being in the bottom three or around it but if they are going to defy the odds then they need to start picking up points at home. The recent 0-0 draw against Chelsea seems encouraging however Chelsea have been having their own problems in this campaign too. There is some good news to report though and that was the clubs 2-0 win over Stoke in the EFL Cup in midweek which will naturally be a boost for them.

Arsenal have made a good start to the season and yet come into this weekend in 5th place such is the competitiveness of the league. While the Gunners have not lost yet they have drawn two games and dropped points that way. The problem for Arsenal is that the two games they have drawn have both come at home and their recent 2-2 draw with Tottenham was seen as a disappointing result given that they were leading twice in the game. In midweek Arsenal went to Brentford and won 1-0 in the EFL Cup and the Gunners boast a 100% win rate record away from home so far.

Team News:

Bournemouth: Emiliano Marcondes has a foot injury and remains sidelined, Ryan Fredericks is still out with a calf injury. Dominic Solanke looks set to miss out with an ankle injury but he will be assessed. Chris Mepham has a knock and is out for at least 3 weeks. Lloyd Kelly is also out with his calf and is set to miss another month.

Arsenal: Gabriel Martinelli is being pencilled in to return for this game but he will face an assessment first. Declan Rice should be good after a minor back injury. Bukayo Saka has a knock but it isn’t expected to be anything serious. Leandro Trossard is more of a slight doubt with a hamstring injury. Thomas Partey is out for 3-4 weeks with a groin strain and Jurrien Timber is out long term with his knee.

Bournemouth vs Arsenal Head to Head:

The clubs have only played each other 14 times and Bournemouth have beaten Arsenal just once.

Last season Arsenal won this fixture 3-0.

Arsenal are unbeaten against Bournemouth home or away for five years.

There is an 80% chance to see over 2.5 goals.

Bournemouth vs Arsenal Prediction:

Bournemouth will get defensive and give over possession and try to counter, but we expect them to have few and far opportunities to do so. Arsenal should be able to grind the Cherries down and we expect Mikel Arteta’s side to come away with all 3 points. It’s interesting to note that in all competitions Arsenal have played three away games and won 1-0 on each occasion so the club are not scoring many goals as of yet on the road.

This fixture does have a high percentage return to see over 2.5 goals and that is a market we will follow. News filtering through that Bournemouth’s most dangerous goalscorer Dominic Solanke could be set to miss out here is a further blow to the home side. It’s an Arsenal win for us.
