World Cup 2018 - Last 16
Monday 2nd July 2018
Kick off at 7pm BST
Venue: Rostov Arena
Match Preview:
Belgium have a special generation of players on their hands and the nation who have never won a major trophy will be hoping to go far in the competition. The good news for the Belgians was how clinical they were in the group stages winning all 3 games. Whilst beating Tunisia and Panama was expected they also got an impressive 1-0 win over England after both squads had hugely changed their initial line ups.
The bad news for Belgium is that if they can get past Japan they have a tough draw on their hands where they could end up facing the likes of Brazil and France. However, few would back against Roberto Martinez’s side who have looked devastating in attack and are always a threat going forward.
Japan will start this game as the underdogs but they managed a great win against Columbia 2-1 in the group stages, although largely with an extra player, and followed that up with a battling draw against Senegal where they were a goal down. In the last match they lost to Poland who were already out. Japan are still lucky to be in the last 16 and only made it as they had received 2 less bookings than Senegal.
Japan do look fearless and can be exciting on the eye even if their defence is yet to be tested by quality. It is guaranteed to be against Belgium, and Japan will have to play the game of their lives if they are to advance to the quarter finals.
