Match Preview:
Aston Villa have already been frustrating this season as they have played some football that would suggest they are a top six side but then the next week struggle to get good performances in. After they played so well in beating Manchester United at Old Trafford not many would have predicted that Dean Smith’s side would go to lose 3 games in a row.
Those defeats have come against Tottenham, Wolves and Arsenal, with the London games both being away from home. The recent form has dropped Villa to 13th place.
Smith’s side have fallen 7 points behind their visitors and at home they have won 50% of their games though their last match at Villa Park ended in a 3-2 defeat against Wolves. Still Villa have been able to beat Everton and Newcastle here so far.
West Ham’s glorious form under David Moyes continues and they took a huge scalp in midweek as the Hammers knocked out Manchester City from the EFL Cup. It was a game that finished 0-0 but the Londoners were able to win on the penalty shoot-out. But the fact the game ended goalless was testament to how far the club have come under Moyes.
Moyes’ side have won 3 of their last four games in the league and are sitting pretty in fourth place with 17 points just 5 behind leaders Chelsea. They come into this game having won their last two beating quality teams such as Everton and Tottenham and even have a 2 point gap to Brighton in 5th place.
Away from home is interesting for the club as they have managed more points with 10 achieved this way and in fact are unbeaten on the road so far. Their only points dropped were against Southampton as that game ended 0-0.
Team News:
Aston Villa: Morgan Sanson and Jaden Philogene-Bidace are both out due to illness. Trezegeut is out long term with a knee injury.
West Ham: Alex Kral could be included in the squad but will be assessed on his fitness.

Aston Villa come into this game in poor form and West Ham are in rich form and yet this being the Premier League it’s not as easy to say that the Hammers are the favourites.
The old West Ham side would come to a difficult ground like Villa Park and lose the game without trying, this side have adopted a very different mentality. At the same time one has to wonder how long Villa’s poor form will continue for and we should remember that from their recent three defeats only one of those was at home and even then it was it had to be a stunning comeback from Wolves who won 3-2 but were 2-0 down.
Nevertheless the value on West Ham is too good to ignore, and we will back them to win but with the extra safety of being able to cover the draw on the refund.
