England Premier League
Tuesday 21st January 2020
Kick off at 7:30pm GMT
Venue: Villa Park
Match Preview:
17th and 18th will play each other in midweek in the Premier League in what could be a fascinating insight into who could go down or survive this season as week 24 for most clubs comes into play.
Aston Villa are in 18th but would climb out of the bottom three with a win and could also put pressure on West Ham. The club drew 1-1 away to Brighton at the weekend. Overall it has not been a great period for the club who have won just once in their last 4 outings.
Of course the last time they played at Villa Park Dean Smith’s side shipped 6 goals, but that was against Manchester City and the same score line isn’t expected here. However the club have lost 3 of their last four games at Villa Park, which doesn’t bode well for this match.
Watford have been on an incredible charge picking up 11 points in their last five games. It has been a massive effort from the club and yet they are not out of the woods by any stretch of the imagination. Currently the Hornets are just 1 point from the bottom three. With a win though they could go 4 points clear and this match in that respect means it's one of their biggest so far this season.
The Hornets held Tottenham to a 0-0 result at the weekend and no one was much surprised, that is how far the club have come in such a short period of time. Nigel Pearson’s side are undefeated away from home in their last 2 games with their last away match ending in a comprehensive 3-0 victory over struggling Bournemouth.
Team News:
Aston Villa: Jonathan Kodija may miss because of illness again, though there are reports that the player could leave the club in this window. Marvelous Nakamba has a knock but it is thought to be minor and could be ready for this game.
Watford: Ismaila Sarr will be assessed after suffering from a muscle injury. Danny Welbeck is near to a return but it is thought it could come near the end of the month and not right now.
Aston Villa vs Watford Head to Head:
The clubs have not played here since 2015 when Watford won 3-2.
Watford have won the last 3 meetings between the teams and Aston Villa have not recorded a win over them since 2007.
The last 3 meetings has seen 13 goals.
Aston Villa vs Watford Prediction:
On paper and form Watford will be the favourites to win, but winning away games in the Premier League is not that easy and there has been a clear shift this season where we have seen even the stronger sides struggle away form home. Watford have done very well but Villa are going to get stuck into this game, and we are tempted to go with the outsiders here, who have the added bonus of home advantage and also need a win to escape the bottom three. Watford are not going to keep up their good form and if points slip it could well be when they are on the road. We will also back both teams to score, as both teams are likely to see this game as an opportunity for points.
