Aston Villa vs Tottenham: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 9th April 2022
Kick off at 5:30pm BST
Venue: Villa Park

Match Preview:

Aston Villa will be wanting to finish the season in the top 10, it would be a small victory for Steven Gerrard in his debut season as manager in the Premier League but they will face a very tough opponent in Tottenham at the weekend.

Villa are in 11th but are just 1 point from their target and that is all the club will be playing for as the season winds down. However there are problems at the club and they come into this clash having lost their last three with defeats against West Ham, Arsenal and Wolves. They have all been narrow losses but will not do the teams confidence any good. At home there isn’t too much praise that can be lavished on the side with just 5 wins this season and just one in their last five games and recently here they lost to a bottom three side in Watford.

Tottenham have a new energy about them as a possible 4th placed finish opens up. The club have found form and have won their last 3 games beating Brighton, West Ham and smashing Newcastle 5-1 last weekend. At the same time their rivals Arsenal have lost two of their last three games. Tottenham will know Arsenal’s earlier result and if the Gunners, as expected, have won then we should see a very determined performance from Tottenham as they would have conceded 4th place back to Arsenal and have played a game more, so a lot is riding on this game.

Tottenham have won 23 points from a possible 45 on the road and that is good enough to be the sixth best away record in the league. They have lost 2 of their last 5 away games though. However this club seem to be about goals at this moment in time and they scored 5 at the weekend and in their last three away games have scored 8.

Team News:

Aston Villa: The club has no new injuries ahead of the game.

Tottenham: Sergio Reguilon is being tipped to return for this game after a recent knee injury and will be assessed. Ryan Sessegnon has recovered from injury but has a lack of match fitness but could feature. Oliver Skipp is still out with a groin injury.

Aston Villa vs Tottenham Prediction:

Villa will not be easy opponents and Tottenham will have to work hard but it is difficult to go against Tottenham to win this game as the club are flying. Of course any historian of the game in England will tell you that this is the Tottenham way and just when you can’t see them losing a game, they will. Maybe this time it will be different under Antonio Conte though and for us Tottenham are rightly the favourites to win this game.

We must add to the fact that only one side is really playing for anything other than pride and that Tottenham has a fantastic record against Villa. Harry Kane is playing well and scoring goals as is Heung Min Son and it wouldn’t be a surprise if both forwards get on the score sheet, we do expect a few goals to go in in what could be a very entertaining game of football and end to end stuff, the type of game where you see gaps appear early. For Tottenham the objective is simple they really have to go for it. Surprisingly the market is really open here so take advantage of the good prices being quoted.
