England Premier League
Saturday 8th April 2023
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Villa Park
Match Preview:
One of the most in form teams in the Premier League is Aston Villa who come into this weekend having won their last 3 games. They have climbed to 7th place and have their sights on finishing in a European place, and who would back against them to do just that. Manager Unai Emery has a superb record in Europe and he will want to be back there for next season and clearly Villa are on a mission.
Aston Villa beat Leicester 2-1 in their last game which was played in midweek and there have also been recent victories over West Ham and Bournemouth. Villa could go sixth with a win here as long as Brighton drop points on the same day and there is much to admire about this team under Emery. At home the Villains have won 50% of their games including their last two in which they were also able to keep clean sheets.
Nottingham Forest are one of four sides to have 27 points and are in 17th place, and their relegation worries continued in midweek as they lost their 14th game of the season after Leeds beat them 2-1. It was a poor result for Forest given that they lost against a direct rival and they remain amongst the favourites to be relegated this season. Recent form has seen just 2 points won from their last 15 and yet if they were to win here they would go a few places up in the table and some fears could at least subside until next week. The problem with that is their away form which is the worst in the league with just 5 goals scored and 34 shipped they have also lost their last 4 away games in a row and are coming up against not only a stronger side but one that is in great form.
Team News:
Aston Villa: Matthew Cash is out with a calf injury and won’t return for at least two weeks. Phillipe Coutinho remains a major doubt with his hamstring. Boubacar Kamara has picked up a knock and will have to be assessed.
Nottingham Forest: Serge Aurier and Emmanuel Dennis will be assessed due to knocks. Jesse Lingard looks like missing out again due to a knee injury, Dean Henderson remains sidelined with his thigh. Scott McKenna may not make the squad through a lack of match fitness and Ryan Yates is 50/50 to return after his shoulder injury.
Aston Villa vs Nottm Forest Head to Head:
The last time the two sides met here was in 2018 in the Championship and it was one of the most memorable games- it finished 5-5.
Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture the teams drew 1-1.
Nottingham Forest have not beaten Aston Villa away from home in 29 years.
Aston Villa vs Nottm Forest Prediction:
We can’t see any other result than a home win. Not only are Aston Villa the better team, they are one of the most in form teams in the league, Nottingham Forest have the worst away record in the league and finally Villa have a superb record at home to Forest.
There is a lot of pressure on the manager and Forest are in trouble, they will try to fight in this game, but we think they will be outclassed by a very confident side. Forest’s points for the remainder of the season are likely to only come at home, as for Villa they are doing their best to keep the winning run going and not only do we think they will win but they could get a few goals too. Ollie Watkins is getting back on the score sheet again and watch out for Emiliano Buendia who can score a few at home, indeed these players are great value to get on considering they are playing a side who has conceded 34 goals already on the road.
