England Premier League
Saturday 30th April 2022
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Villa Park
Match Preview:
It’s lucky for Steven Gerrard that his tenure with Aston Villa did not start as poor as the club have been for the past couple of months. Villa’s form has nosedived of late earning just 1 point from their last 15 and the club has rapidly fallen down the league and come into this game in 15th place.
You get a sense that Villa’s players after acquiring 36 points believed that they would be safe- they now have 37 after a recent draw with Leicester, they should be safe but if Burnley and Everton can finish strong as they try to outdo one another and Villa’s poor form continues who’s to say that the Villains will not be dragged into danger? To give some perspective on the clubs situation they would be bottom of the league based on form, where from the last 5 games they have scored just two goals and conceded 9. At home it’s 3 defeats from their past four with one win in between which was a rousing 4-0 victory over Southampton but in the last few months there has been hardly any smiles from Gerrard.
Norwich on the other hand come here looking destined for Championship football next season. The Canaries are 11 points from safety including goal difference with just 15 points left to play for and surely they are down now. Dean Smith who will be making a return to the Villa dug out after being sacked mid-season and joining Norwich has seen his side lose their last two games with their last match ending in a 3-0 home defeat against Newcastle. The club have won just 4 points from their last 15, although they could well end up not finishing bottom of the league at least as they are just 1 point behind 19th placed Watford.
Team News:
Aston Villa: Lucas Digne is missing for the next 3 weeks at least with a shoulder injury. Kourtney Hause has received a set back with a muscle injury and it is touch and go if he will return this season. Morgan Sanson is 50/50 to return from a knock. Bertrand Traore is also 50/50 to return for this game after his groin injury.
Norwich: Lukas Rupp is out with a knee injury, Joshua Sargent will be assessed after his recent ankle injury. Andrew Omobamidele, Adam Idah and Ozan Kabak are out for the season.
Aston Villa vs Norwich Head to Head:
The teams last played at Aston Villa back in 2019 and Villa won 1-0.
Aston Villa have won the last 3 meetings scoring 8 goals in the process.
5 of the last seven meetings has seen both teams to score.
Aston Villa vs Norwich Prediction:
Aston Villa need to start winning games again and this is something that will be demanded by Gerrard and what better way to be at home and playing the poorest side in the Premier League to end a disappointing run.
Villa are not completely out of trouble but feel like they are playing believing that they are safe and that is always dangerous. We will back Villa to get the win here, Norwich can be a tough opponent but if Villa can score early that could break their momentum and the game should open up for the home side. Villa’s odds aren’t brilliant at 1.44 to win at full time so we will back themon the "-1 asian handicap".
Ollie Watkins is due a goal and we will back him to score at the weekend just like he did earlier in the season against the same opposition.
Aston Villa vs Norwich Betting Tips:
Asian handicap (-1 Aston Villa) at 1.575
Anytime goalscorer: Ollie Watkins at 2.10
Over 2.5 goals at 1.72
