Aston Villa vs Norwich: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Thursday 26th December 2019
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Villa Park

Match Preview:

Aston Villa’s 3-1 loss at home to Southampton at the weekend was the clubs 4th defeat in a row and they are now in the bottom three and 3 points from safety.

Villa have another opportunity to play at home and there will be a lot of pressure on them to win this game, yet another loss isn’t just about slipping behind but the confidence factor too and if too much negativity sets in Villa could be in a real struggle to stay up this season. At the end of the day Dean Smith’s side have lost 11 games from 18 and that has been a grave problem. AtVilla Park they have lost more than they have won and they have lost 3 of their last 4 games.

Norwich are in 19th and could join Villa on the same number of points (15) with a win here. The club have no wins in their last five games and only 3 all season. The last time they played Villa they lost 5-1 so will have bad memories of that. Norwich have conceded alongside Southampton the most goals with 37.

On the road the Canaries have won just 1 game which was against Everton and they have scored 5 and shipped 15 so far. Norwich’s last game ended in a 2-1 loss at home to Wolves and they had been leading that match, which will have been a real blow to their mental strength.

Team News:

Aston Villa: John McGinn has an ankle injury and is set to miss many weeks. Tyrone Mings is trying to be fit for this game after his hamstring injury and may face a late test

Norwich: The club do have some long term injuries but have no new ones coming into this game

Aston Villa vs Norwich Head to Head:

The last time the teams met at Villa Park, Norwich won 2-1.

Earlier this season Aston Villa won 5-1.

The last 5 meetings has seen both teams to score.

Aston Villa vs Norwich Prediction:

Though Norwich did win their last game at Villa Park, their record is woeful here and that is their only victory in 15 years. The home side are in poor form but this is the perfect game for them to pick up the pieces and get back on the winning track. Villa are too good a side to go and lose 5 games in a row, and we also have to remember that they beat Norwich earlier this season 5-1, so Norwich could come into this match with very little confidence. Therefore everything points to a home win, although it might not be a walk over like last time so the draw is covered for extra security. Traditionally there are goals in this game and we believe this trend could continue and will back both sides to score. Jack Grealish is always a threat and we will also back him to score anytime.
