Aston Villa vs Newcastle: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Monday 25th November 2019
Kick off at 8pm GMT
Venue: Villa Park

Match Preview:

The Monday night game will see Aston Villa in 17th take on Newcastle in 13th and a win for the home side would take them within a point of the Magpies. However Steve Bruce’s side has the chance to extend their lead over Villa to 7 points with victory at Villa Park.

Aston Villa are in poor form and have lost their way a bit, losing their last 3 consecutive games. Although the club will point to the fact that they have had to face both Liverpool and Manchester City in those games and the Liverpool defeat was very close.

Still the club have lost 7 games from 12 and at current form they would finish the league with about 35 points which in most seasons has meant relegation. They will have to step up their game especially at home if they are to survive this season. With just 1 win in their last four games here, which came against Brighton, that just underlines the problems Dean Smith’s side faces.

Newcastle are in their best form of the season and have lost just one game in their last 5. They come into this game after winning back to back matches against Bournemouth and West Ham. A win for the Magpies would shoot them into the top half of the table which was unthinkable a month ago as the club under Bruce looked destined for a relegation fight.

On the road Newcastle don’t fair well though and have lost 4 of their six games, the only encouraging side is that they won their last away match against West Ham.

Team News:

Newcastle: Alex Tuanzebe is close to returning but may have some fitness issues and will have a late test. Jamaal Lascelles has been confirmed to be ruled out until the end of the year with a leg injury. Sean Longstaff is suspended and still serving his ban after being sent off v Wolves

Aston Villa vs Newcastle Head to Head:

The last 7 meetings have seen under 2.5 goals.

Newcastle have not won at Villa Park since 2013.

Aston Villa vs Newcastle Prediction:

The more confident side coming into this game is Newcastle but they will face a tough and ready Villa side. Whilst Villa have lost 3 games in a row we don’t think that will continue and the international break has come at the right time for the club. Newcastle will be missing some key players who can inject pace into the side and whilst they won’t lie down we just think coupled with their poor away form (they have lost 70% of their games on the road) this match may just be beyond them. Newcastle have won twice on the road this season, both in London, and in general really are struggling when not at home. We feel this match will start slow, the football could be sloppy but the game should get better the longer it goes on, but our main bet here will be to see the home win but with the draw covered as it could well be a tight game.
