England Premier League
Sunday 9th May 2021
Kick off at 2:05pm BST
Venue: Villa Park
Match Preview:
Aston Villa only have slim hopes of a European finish after stalling in the middle of the campaign and they come into this weekend 6 points from their objective. The problem is the club they are effectively chasing is Liverpool.
Villa ended 3 games without victory by going to Everton and coming away with three points in a 2-1 win, which was an excellent victory for Dean Smith’s side. Villa would love, at least, to finish in the top 9 and displace Arsenal and they have earned 7 points from their last 15, however the club have found it hard to be consistent, which has really bogged down their season.
At home Villa have won just 1 game from their past five and have performed better on the road. From their 48 points only 21 have come at home. Their last home game ended in a 2-2 draw with West Bromwich Albion.
Manchester United are still unbeaten away from home and they will be determined to end the season with this record intact. It has been a great week for the club on the pitch where they qualified for the final of the Europa League as they knocked out Roma. There was a scare in Italy in the second leg because United lost 3-2 but they won 8-5 on aggregate in the end after their fantastic 6-2 victory at home. United will play Spanish team Villarreal in the final.
Off the pitch though United will be charged by the FA as last week’s game with Liverpool at Old Trafford had to be postponed because of fan protests over the owners of the club, the Glazers. Fans broke into the ground and ended up on the pitch!
Back to the football and United are in very good form having won 4 of their last five games. Their last league game took place a couple of weeks ago where they drew with Leeds.
Team News:
Aston Villa: Jack Grealish has some fitness issues and has been ruled out of this game but should return next week. Morgan Sanson is 50/50 to return for next week with a lack of match fitness. Trezeguet looks likely to be out for the season with a knee injury.
Manchester United: Daniel James has a knock and will have to be assessed, he is 50/50 to return. Anthony Martial looks likely to be out for the season with his knee injury.

Aston Villa haven’t won at home against Manchester United since 1999.
Aston Villa vs Man Utd Prediction:
With the Europa League final a few weeks away Manchester United can fully concentrate on trying to finish in 2nd place. The runners-up spot is the best the club can achieve this season and it would feel like a blow if Leicester or Chelsea were able to take them over at this stage of the season.
United would need to have an off day to let in Villa here, that is how good the club have been recently. They are enjoying their football under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and we expect them to get a solid win here and just overpower their opponents. As a unit they haven’t looked this slick and confident, dare we say it, since the Sir Alex Ferguson years and we expect them to get the away victory they seek.
